  1. I do not understand this. How much lye? How much water? link: http://www.the-sage.com/calcs/lyecalc2.php The chart did not turn out, but I used this recipe: 50% olive oil (no need to get extra virgin; light olive oil is great!) 25% coconut oil (Lou Ana brand at Super Wal-Mart is perfect) 25% lard* (posted in recipe forum) and calculated it for 2 pounds (32 oz) How much lye and water do I use?
  2. I don't think hubby would be very happy about that.
  3. No, it is a little plastic kitchen scale. I tried to find it on Walmart.com, but it is not there. I did notice a digital scale for only $30.00. I wonder if I can squeeze that much more out of my budget for this week. We can live off of Ramen, right??
  4. Is there a way to use cup measurements for oils and lye to make HP soap? All I have is this dinky little plastic scale that I got from Walmart and I don't know if that would be accurate enough... or would it? I am anxious to try to make some soap!!
  5. Soapermom: I did not know the Chemestry store was in Sc till I saw someone here post about it. I just wish I could go in and take a sniff of their EO's/FO's before I buy. I am too far to go up there just for a pick up. I went to CCS yesterday and got a sampler deal. I have not used any yet, but I do plan on going back today for more. I am going to get into so much trouble with them being so close! To everyone else, thanks for the scent suggestions.
  6. Thanks Michi. I promise that I am not that dumb all the time, lol. Math is just a very, very weak point when it comes to my dyslexia. Only took me four times to pass college Algebra... I think that is because my professor gave me a few mercy points. heh So, if I order bottles from this site, how do I find the right size shrink bands? Edit because DOH, I used the wrong word.
  7. Do they have shrink bands for theese bottles? Oh and my really dumb question for the day. How do you figure cost per bottle? Do I enter price/ quanity in my calculator or is it quantity/ price. dyslexia and math do not mix... Edit because I really should know what is the right word to use for a disorder I have. Specifically, in this case: Dyscalculia
  8. Thanks, Luci. I had hope that I could go in and sniff test the fragrance oils before I buy any. That was my reason for wanting to go up there one day. It is a two hour, one way, trip so unless I would be able to sniff test I don't think it would be worth the trip out there. I'll just have to fly by the seat of my pants, heh.
  9. Oh, and I see that you are from SC. Are you anywhere near the chemesrty store? Do you know if they allow people to come in for pick ups or to browse?
  10. I am new to all this, so I thought I would try a base to start with. I do plan on branching out and making my own some day (shower gel, lotion, and body spray). MP= Melt and pour soap, right? I did not realize they sold M&P soap. I hope to make it over there sometime this week. They are less than 5 miles away and I just can't seem to make it over there. :undecided
  11. They are right down the road from me and I plan on going by there tomorrow or Thurs. Has anyone bought from them before? Are their FO's good? What about the shower gel base?
  12. I want to play!! How did you do it?
  13. Ok, I think hoohoodilly is almost better than vajayjay.
  14. Do you know how long the sale is for?
  15. Kristine: I don't do candles, I do B&B. I will likely add candles one day, though. I think I will check out the mall for a while before I get a booth. Make sure they get good business, and don;t have 50 other vendors selling bath bombs and such. This will also give me time to actually come up with a business name, lol. Gramma: Sounds like you do fairly well. Christmas season should be good for you.
  16. I was looking through old threads the other day and found one where you all were talking about a site that gave free samples of various thngs. I would like to try to order, but can't find the thread now I used the search feature, and did not have much luck. It was a site that had things like Natrasorb and from the discussion the samples were quite large, one being 20 oz, IIRC. HELP!!
  17. It is ALL in the marketing. I have never tried Lush before, it is too crazy expensive.
  18. ooooh, those are neat! Thanks! Now I have the image of take out containers out of my head, lol.
  19. I just sae a flier for a new craftmall that will open soon. Has anyone tried to sell through these? You have a booth in the store and they sell it, you don't have to be there. I have seen them where they are like consignment and where you just rent a booth. Thoughts?
