  1. Except for those darn sink holes I love it too! Yes Jason if your reading this, im still getting holes at 130 pouring temp. However a heat gun and 5 minutes later you have a beautiful candle and it throws nicely when lit and the cold throw is great with most scents I have used, especially cinnamon buns. I thought I died and went to heaven when I lit that one. So yes Marilyn give it a try its nice.
  2. Hi folks, Have any of you guys used thiswax before? I bought some to try out today since the supplier is 25 minutes from my house. I wanted to have a back up source for wax in case I run out and need some in a hurry. I really want to know if it has any problems and how the finish is. It says its the best but then dosnt every wax supplier say that:) They are nice people to deal with and I love the fact that I was able to go in person and pick it up.
  3. I saw this in one of the candle instruction books and they lined it with real gold foil and it looked really cool. I dont know how safe this is but it looks great!
  4. TwinMom, I use liquid dyes from Bitter creek and they come out really light, in fact I almost have to over dose the candle with dye to get it dark. In fact I use the dye chips for a darker look. Try the liquid using a very very little and you should get that pastel look, it worked for me.
  5. Hi Palette2006, Im new to candles too but the heat gun will become your new best friend with these soy candles! I've learned you can even make an ugly candle top pretty with these guns. The other best tool in town I learned is this board with all these wonderfull and knowledgeable folks!
  6. I bought these: wbkhold - Black Plastic Wick Holder Clip wWct-lg - LG Wick Centering Tool for Containers wwickcent - Wick Center/Holder I really love the ound one for small jelly and mason jars and it works on some of the apothacary jars two. These are so much better than clothes pins. The Bitter Creek folks are really nice too!
  7. Thanks Jason for taking time out to help me out on this. I didnt get to pour any more today but I am gonna be back at it tomorrow. I will give it another shot with the new temperature. Thanks Again! John
  8. I got mine from Bitter Creek Candle Supply and they havent given me any problems. I do clean the containers first though for any dirt or dust that could cause them to come lose.
  9. Ok folks its been 3 days of trying out this wax (GB444) now at different temperature pours and Im still getting big air holes (craters) mainly around the wick but also off to the sides too. Of course dont you know I didnt save wax for a repour because I am making multiple fragrances and colors. The heat gun, my new best friend, has been fixing the problem but I would rather not have to go back over these every time I make a batch. I have poured from 120 all the way to 175. I was using 8 oz jelly jars and this last batch was made in apothacary jars 8 to 10 oz's with a 2 3/4 to 3 1/4 diameter rim. Any body have any Ideas? I really love the finish on this wax and will keep it but I would like to make things a little easier. This is the new and improved 444 too, not the old verion. Any comments appreciated! John
  10. Hi lsbennis, Like Sherri I too live in Florida right next to Disney Worlds mouse house! I was going to use Florida Soy Solutions since they are only 20 minutes from me but he was closed last week for the birth of their new baby. I ended up getting my wax Golden Brands 444 from Soycandle.com- http://www.soycandle.com/ along with my wicks. I get my fragrances from Natures Garden http://www.naturesgardencandles.com/ I also bought some of the most wonderfull little things called Wick Centering Tools from Bitter Creek Candle Supply- http://secure.candlesupply.com/catalog_page.cfm?queries_index=index7&ProductCodeID=46&ProductSubCodeID=231 All of these folks are so wonderfull to deal with and some even sent me free samples. I still think I am going to try out Florida Soy Solutions since I can pick it up from him but I am still going to use the GB 444 as my main wax as it has a beautiful finish. Good luck from one addicted newbie to another:)
  11. Hi Sherri, I Just made them yesterday and was going to burn the two different wicks im trying today. I need to get with it though siince I have bunches of money tied up and want to sell some of these soon. John
  12. Hi again everyone. This person is not stupid thats selling these things on Ebay. His spelling was fine in the email he sent me and he has a website that is oh so perfect on the grammar , hmmm did I spell that right:rolleyes2 After being out of school for 28 years my spelling kind of stinks these days, its that old age thing I guess. I think his Ebay ads are done that way to get your attention , I know it got mine and before I knew it I went and bid on his auction at the last second and sadly enough I won it. This guy sells a lot of stuff under 2 different ID's. Thank heavens I only spent 71.00 or I really would have been irritated. I was lucky in the fact that I know how to use Google and found this board and now am dealing with some great legitimate suppliers. So thank you Candletech.com:yay:
  13. Kay try Soycandle.com. They are in Kentucky and have the Golden Brands 464 for a really LOW price for 50 pounds. Mellissa is really a lovely person to deal with. Im using their 444 and it has a beautiful finish.
  14. I just went out to my local Wally World (walmart) and had a field day shopping. Boy it really is one stop shopping there for literaly everything. I got a Presto Kettle which I really wanted to melt with. I found lollypop sticks for dropping in my dyes and most importantly a Heat Gun! This is the best thing since bread and butter all for only a little over 20 dollars. They even have an electronic kitchen scale for less than 30.00 dollars that actually works. I heated the tops of the candles and no more craters. I did have to pop a few air bubbles it created. I will pour it hotter on my next try .This Gb 464 has a beautiful finish to the tops! Thanks for all your help guys:yay:
  15. Thanks Crowded House.... Im gonna try pouring another batch later tonight. So I should pour at 150 minimum hmmmm..... Ok I will give it a shot. I also repoured the sinkholes but at 110 and still got a sink hole on the repour. So maybe this wax does need to go in the jar hotter. Do you guys heat your jars?? Thanks John GEEZ I just noticed I misspelled pour in my earlier posts. Oh well they say the mind is the first thing to go:cry2:
  16. Hi folks, I just pored the new Golden Brands 444 soy wax in 8oz jelly jars that you get at Big Lots . I heated to around 170 took it off added liquid dye. I then let it cool to 160 and added my FO. I pored this batch at 110 degrees and left them alone. When I came back to check in an hour I noticed craters that look like big earthquake fault lines and sinkholes sort of close to the edge. Of course I didnt save any extra wax. This was one pound of wax and 1 ounce of FO. I then made another batch heating to 170 again , pored FO at 160 and let cool to 125 degrees. I then pored at 125. This was 2 pounds of wax and 3 ounces of FO. I got the same craters and fault lines in this batch only closer to the wick. This is supposed to be the new blend of 444 ,, it is a pretty smooth top though except for the holes. I talked to Melisa and Soycandle.com and shes not sure either. Any one out there have any ideas or helpful hints? I would really appreciate any help especially since I was having so much fun using that cheap soy wax I got from Ebay , now I have the good wax and its problem city. I just pored a second time on the second batch since I saved some in case of the problem happening again. So im waiting to see if that solves it. Thanks again for reading my rambling:smiley2: John
  17. Hi Angela , I just sent you an email for your spread sheet too since I am so math challenged Thank You John
  18. Thank you ladies thats why I am so happy to have found this board with such knowledgeble people. Is there a book out there for just soy candle making? Thanks again! John
  19. Hi folks, I had some leftover soy wax of an unknown brand that I bought off of ebay along with other candle makng stuff for beginers(thats me) so I decided to make some tarts since it came with a tart mold. I melted 1lb of wax to 170 and add FO at 160 and poured at 115. I used Pam cooking spray to coat the mold. This was last night. Today I go to pop them out and they wont come out. I took a knife to one to get it out and its soft and oily feeling. Did I use the wrong wax ( container) since thats all I had and I dont really have any instructions for tarts. Perhaps I didnt let them set up long enough(12 hours) I have since ordered good wax from a reputable company and its on the way. I would just like to know if theres a different wax for tarts , I know there is for votives. I wasnt planning on making these yet but once you get the candle bug its all over! Besides im having fun even with my mistakes. Any advise would be appreciated. They do smell great though! Thanks you. John
  20. Ladies thanks for the suggestion of wick centering tools. I just got off the phone from placing an order for them with Bitter Creek. Nice folks to deal with. I had to call back because I forgot to order warning labels and they were able to squeeze it in with out having to charge me shipping for another order. Hope these work since its hard to find the old wooden clothes pins. SHERI , I just noticed from your earlier post that your from my neck of the woods,, being a guy im a little slow to notice things ,,its a guy thing , We read but sometimes our minds only see what we want to see Yes I am a true native Floridian one of the last(the others all moved up north) The nice thing is I live next to Mickey Mouse Land! its great having disney 15 minutes from year house but whats even better is living 3 minutes from Universal Studios! Ladies thanks again for all the advise!
  21. Hi folks , The person with the 250 auctions is a guy. I know because I bought one of those kits from him. It wasnt great but it did serve the purpose. He really is a lousy speller though. He was actually under another Ebay ID but I think he was getting to many negative feedbacks so he switched ID's. You really got to be carefull when buying on Ebay. It was my first exploration of candle equipment but I got smart and found this board and am now buying from legitimate suppliers. Oh and I got one of those huge jars with a wooden lid in his auction and I bet I cant get 100.00 dollars for it if I threw a 20 dollar bill in with it.
  22. Hi Sheri, Thanks for the offer of help. I ordered the 444 Golden Brand from Soy Candle.com and I was treated great! I chose them over a local supplier. What sold me was the level of customer service from Jason and Melisa. Is the wax good? Well I guess I am going to find out but from what I read Golden Brands rates pretty high and this is supposed to be an improved version of the 444. Plus their prices are very reasonable on wax(downright cheap) so it was economical to buy from them. I also ordered wicks from them, the only thing they didnt have was warning labels and wick stickers and wick bars.
  23. Gee I wish I had ordered some Scents from them now that you guys recomend them. I ordered FO's from Natures Garden last week and they are really nice. I am however going to try Soy Candles Cinabuns FO. Its on the way and was highly recomended. Im glad to hear that some of you like Soycandle.com. Plus there shipping is very competative , at least it was to Florida. It only cost me 10.00 dollars more than what I would have paid locally and its a better wax.
  24. Jason after speaking with you today I just wanted to say thank you after explaining your product and recomending Soycandle.com . Melissa at Soy Candle.com was absolutley wonderful to deal with. So because of your input and her knowledge I ordered from them instead of a local supplier of another wax brand. Just wanted to give you credit for great advise. Folks he really is a nice person to talk with! If your considering Golden Brands he can answer all the hard to answer questions! Thanks again Jason and thank you Melissa at Soy Candle.com
