  1. I pour thousands between August and Jan. Then it slows down, so I concentrate on soap and whipped butters and lip balms. Things are usually steady until summer. Then I have fun in the sun, drink beer and garden. I love all my lavender and herbs! It is a fun cycle. I have been thinking though. I need to spread out my pouring a little more during the summer, so I am not so bogged down from August till Jan. I love my "play" time though!

  2. That was my New Years resolution....is it New Years yet?? I think I might actually like it messy like this....that way I can SEE everything...I love all this stuff! I am really an organized person, but this business has just to much STUFF to organize. As soon as you put it away, it comes right back out again anyway!

  3. I am with Stella1952 with that I tend to ride with the changes of a particular wax. Not because I want to, but because I HAVE to. I purchase by the pallet, so I have no choice, but to work with what I have. Each pallet of wax has been different every time I get one. I can't say I have to TOTALLY wick differently with every new pallet, but there are different characteristics with each shipment. Sometimes I will have to wick up, or down or pour hotter, or cooler....it is very frustrating, but that is "natural soy". I don't know if I really believe that it is about the particular crop of soybeans... I mean, we have different crops with the vegetable shortening and corn oil we buy but do they look or feel different with each container? No, because they have more strict regulations for food because of the FDA. Soy wax is not a food, it is natural, or starts out that way and then it goes through the process to make an oil into a wax or higher melt point oil....anyway, it is not a food so not so strict of regulations to folllow, IMO. I bet the big guys get all the "GOOD" wax, lol. There is no way they would put up with all this!

  4. I use CD's as well with this wax. I had 2 different lot dates with my last pallet (can't believe they did that to me!) and the first 14 cases were a dream......then the last half were a nightmare! Terrible craters and sinkholes....have to do a repour on most all of them. Luckily things have slowed down a bit and I have some time to experiment with these last 9 cases...by the time I figure it out it will all be gone!! lol Anyway, the wicking has stayed the same!:yay:

  5. It seems I get some mushrooming when I have the wick cut at a slant. That is why I want it cut straight across. I think I get how to clip them with the toenail clippers....it sounds simple....but when I go to do it I feel all clumsy. I have always used scissors so it feels weird to do it any other way. I just poured 900 candles and am down to my last 100 and finally got fed up with the slanted wick thing and trying to clip that point off. I wish I would have asked sooner! Oh well, now I know...thanks everyone for all your help!

  6. I am having trouble cutting my wicks after the candle is poured. I have used the wick cutter from BC, but it takes to long. So I just use a scissors. In order to cut the wick so it is not cut at an angle I bend the wick over just a bit and snip it, but this makes the wax pull away from the wick and crumble a bit around where the wax meets the wick...then I have to heat gun or press with my finger...it is becoming a pain. What do you all use to cut your wicks? I am cutting CD 14 and CD16 and they are kinda thick.

  7. I just had the show from HEAVEN! I brought in double what I normally do and I didn't come down on a single candle!:yay: It was the best show ever...very well organized and well run. What a blast that was! I was busy the entire time and it was in my home town so I didn't have to drive far. I set up mostly the night before, so that was easy. I wish all my shows were like this last one. I have another this weekend, so I have been busy restocking and working on a fundraiser (1000 candles!) due by the week before Thanksgiving. What am I doing on here you ask? Well, I am at work...not much to do right now....worrying about how I'm going to get all this done!

  8. I just recently switched to 444 and now I am having problems with black soot-like swirls in the wax once the wax gets down to the bottom half of the jar. Never had this with my other wax. Throw is still great, flame, and melt pool still great. It's just this darn black stuff swirling in the wax. Sometimes it is just coming from one wick (I double wick these jars). It doesn't seem to happen on single wicked jars, although I color those and maybe I need to go back and check real close. Does anyone know what it is? Should I cut back on f/o? I really like the throw and I use 1.35 (roughly) pp of wax. I know it has something to do with the oxygen level because it doesn't happen until the bottom half. I just don't know how to fix it!
