What if you do get your wax temp up way high, like say 220? When you say it will scorch the wax, what does this do? Will it only discolor? I have let it get that high a few times, but have not noticed anything wrong afterwards. Does the candle burn differently, or does it affect the throw? Have any of you noticed what happens if you do scorch it? TIA ~Dana

Having the same problem here. They burned fine in August. I ended up switching waxes all together because I couldn't wick up anymore in this container. Where I used to use a 1312 I had to double wick (which I didn't really want to do). I spent LOTS of time and money perfecting this jar the first time. Now to start all over again has been a PITA! These 26 ouncers take FOREVER to test burn too. So I have figured out my summer wicking and winter wicking for this jar. I have been concerned about the ones I sold in August. What if they are just now getting around to burning them? Will they get a complete MP......? Will it drown out.....? What about the ones I sell to different parts of the country? How the heck are we ever supposed to get that "perfect candle" with all these variables?

Yep, this new batch is giving me problems with wicking and milky spots ( not quite like frosting). I am working through it though. I have to, I have 5 cases left of 8. I have to use it on my uncolored candles, but I can pour it pretty hot (145 and trying it even hotter), and the tops are beautiful! Still the same great scent throw too!

What kind of wax are you using? I have been getting weird white/gray splotches on my colored candles. Not like frosting. It looks like what you describe, like milk left in the glass before you poured. I can't figure it out. I use ecosoya pure, always have, and this has never happened before. So I am using this wax for my uncolored candles. Then it acts fine. I am into a different box now (same lot #) but will try it again. I also had cracking with this lot which I have never had before with my colored candles. I think I either got a bad batch or they changed it somehow. But, there again, it is just with my colored candles. It doesn't crack when I leave it uncolored. I didn't realize when I started making candles several years ago, that there was going to be this on-going detective work to find the culprit. It keeps it interesting though! My DH wonders why don't I just quit, to many problems etc. Well, I am an addict and this is what I do. When I come faced with a problem I try to figure it out, obsess about it, and work my way around it. Never did it cross my mind to QUIT! ~Dana

I could not get mc's Pumpkin Spice to throw for me either. I let it cure for a couple of MONTHS and it was better....... but not up to my standards either. I do like Pumpkin Crunch Cake (NG) but not quite what I am looking for either. I ended up mixing Spicy Gingerbread (MC) and Pumpkin Spice. It has been curing for a couple of weeks. Time to light'er up!

It's not just the cheap stores either. I was looking at the candles at Elder Beerman and OMGosh! Wet spots, air bubbles, wicks off-center, and that mottled look. So what's the big deal about a little frosting? (I know, the frosting issue still bothers me too) ~Dana

I purchase a skid at a time and have always stored in my garage. There is no heat and no air, it's the only place I have to store it. I bet the warehouse it came from doesn't have heat or air either, most don't.

That's exactly what my husband said last night........while he was carrying 7 cases of wax down to the basement! I was just tired of worrying about it. It got down into the 30's the last couple of nights, and I would be watching that garage door like a hawk, making sure everyone would close it as SOON as they came in. By reading the replies, I guess I was being anal about it. Well, now I can tell my husband to carry them all back up! lol:laugh2:

Do you keep them inside, or out in the garage? Do you have to worry so much about temp changes BEFORE you pour too? I am using pure soy, and just wondering......TIA~Dana

I add the f/o at 175, pour at 135 and that seems to work. Although, the directions say to add the f/o right before you pour. I was always afraid that was to cool a temp and that it wouldn't bind with the wax. ~Dana

I didn't think it was that cool down there. We had a big drop in temps OUTSIDE, but I had the heater running for a while before and after I poured these. It was at least 70 degrees before I turned the heater on. I'm cold-blooded. I don't like it when the house falls below 74 degrees. I didn't have the dehumidifier on though the night before, so I left it on last night and will pour again! ~Dana

I hope you didn't get a bad batch, I just ordered 8 cases of ecosoya pure. I'd hate to have 8 bad boxes! I haven't opened them yet, I'll be into them next week though. I will let you know. I have always used this wax and I have always gotten a good throw. ~Dana

I have never had this happen before. I poured 5 jars of comfort blend and ecosoya, and 5 jars of ecosoya and BW. All of the ones with BW cracked from top to bottom. I figured I made a mistake and added to much BW. Then later, I went down and 1 of the ecosoya/cb blend was cracking. Luckily, I was making these up as testers, so I can still test burn....right? What the heck happened? I poured as I normally do with the ecosoya/bw. But I have never poured the comfort blend/ecosoya before. Did they cool to fast? I heated the jars slightly before I poured and had the heater on for about an hour after. Any ideas? TIA ~Dana

I use the cotton wicks. Doesn't anyone use these anymore with their soy? ~Dana

Mellisa e-mailed me right away and said to cure for at least 72 hours. I stuck my jar in the frig for a few hours to see if it would frost. It didn't frost really, just got a little oil sepage (sp?). I may have added too much at 1 3/8 oz. pp ~Dana

Yep, I was using 3%. I would always scoop it out of the bag with the Tablespoon and put it in the cup to weigh it. It would always weigh 1/2 oz., so I just started getting lazy and put it right in the melt pot. I am starting to think that it's not the BW I am adding but all the extra dye. This guy wanted really really red and really really orange, so while I've been having fun with that, I am creating wicking issues. I am going to ease up on the color and see if that helps too. I have always used the cotton or HTP wicks. The addict in me wants to try the lx's! I can go back and just use my regular formula for this order, but with that awesome color he wanted I just wanted them to be gorgeous and perfect! I still have a few days........ ~Dana

Sandi, I use 1 Tbls. per lb. of ecosoya pure. I am working with different jars now, and I am coloring when before I was not. I just wasn't having the trouble that I am now. I tried going down to 1/2 Tbls pp but then it wasn't enough to change the look of the wax.

Henryk, I thank you for all that info! That website was really helpful too. I am going to try the lx's for sure. I just pulled the HTP1312's out and stuck in the HTP 126's. After the wax cools, I'll try them out. I never knew that about the 126's. I was really shocked! All this time I thought the 1312 was going to give me the largest mp diameter! I hope I can figure this out soon- I have an order of 3 cases due by Thursday! Thanks again you guys! ~Dana

Hi pixisprkl, I poured a large jar of Soy Pro last night. The cold throw is awsome! I poured at 145, so it was a little bumpy on top. Do you know what is a good cure time for this wax? The color looks great too, but I wonder about the hot throw........... anyone test burn this wax yet? ~Dana

Hey, do either of you find that you have to either wick up or cut back on your f/o when you add BW? I can't wick up anymore (using a HTP 1312) unless if you know of one that burns hotter. I am scared to cut back on the f/o for fear it won't throw well. I currently use 1 3/8 oz. Maybe it will throw better because with less oil it will burn hotter, giving a full m/p? I used to add it last year but read that it doesn't help with the scent throw, so I stopped adding it. I want to add it again because I like the look, but now I can't get them to have a full m/p. justrightcandles, I use the eco PB for my tarts but mix it w/ 1/2 eco pure. I still get the sinking in the center though. I have had a request for the chunks. How do you make them? I was thinking just pour your wax in a big baking dish and break it up. Is this what you do? Thanks! ~Dana

I think you are right Rachel, I better stick to Mcintosh named f/o since there are so many good ones. Granny Smith or Green Apple sound more tart and tangy instead of crisp and juicy.......I think he does know what he is looking for too. I have only been making soap for a little over a year now and it seems that most recipes just say add frag oil- not HOW MUCH frag oil. So how much do you all add per pound of oils to your soaps. I know with EO I would add less. Thanks so much! ~Dana

Thanks everyone! Boy, such quick responses! There are just so many different apple scents. I mean, even though this guy said he wanted Mcintosh would he really know if the oil was called Granny Smith or Country Apple or whatever? I guess what I'm saying is, I am open to any apple scent (not just the ones named Mcintosh) as long as it smells really crisp and juicy and throws great. NG has quite a few different apple scents. Would you say their Mcintosh meets my description more so than their Granny Smith, or one of their other apples? Thanks so much!~Dana

Hello everyone! I just got a huge order for Mcintosh Apple. The only problem is, I don't carry it yet! Can anyone give me a few suggestions on an oil with an awesome throw (in pure soy, and parasoy). I currently order from NG and MC so if I would stick with one of those that would be best, but anywhere close to Ohio would be OK too. Thanks! ~Dana
