  1. I don't know if this might help at all....I use liquid dye. I bought mine at Jo-Ann fabrics, and got 1/2 ouce for $2.99, but you can get it cheaper at other places. One thing though.....when I bought my dye, I had no idea how messy it could be! The ones I got didn't have a dropper on top, and it got EVERYWHERE! But I do love the liquid. The next time I buy though, I will definitely get the kind with the dropper top to protect from spills, leaks, etc.
  2. $160 per month, $20 per day on Saturday and Sunday.
  3. Hello everybody! There is a flea market that just opened nearby to where I live. It opened about 6 weeks ago, and it seems to be booming because it is so new. Now, I sell candles, incense, and bath salts and things like that (no soap yet) but I went there last weekend and saw about 8 other soy candle booths inside! I swear, the market is saturated here in Ohio, I am having a hard time. Anyways, I talked to some dealers there, and they say that they are having wonderful sales and doing great and everything. And I believe them, too. It has been very busy because it is so new, but I expect it to die down after a few months when it is not so new. So, if I want to go there, now would be the best time. Ok, to get a booth inside, I have to reserve it for a month, I can't just set up for one day or weekend. The thing is, I want to try it, but I am afraid that I might not do good, and then I will have wasted a whole month's rent! What should I do?
  4. I heard somewhere ( I can't remember) that you can use soy wax in body products. Is this true? If the soy wax used for candles is pure, can it also be used on the body? I don't see why it couldn't, but I wanted to know if anyone knew for sure. If it can, could it be used as a substitute for beeswax? Any suggestions would be great! Thanks a lot
  5. Yes, they do have some pretty nice tables at Wal-Mart. I have checked there, and that is where I got mine. And they are not too expensive either!
  6. Also, if you make butters, since they have no water in them, do you need a preservative? I got some LiquaPar Optima for my water based lotions, but it can be used in oils too, which makes it nice. Do I need to add some if I decide to sell?
  7. Okay, I just ordered a sample of the dry flo, I will see if that helps when it comes in! Thanks for the link! How much does it cost to buy, by the way? I didn't see a price.
  8. Thanks a lot. And thanks for the suggestions! BTW, I looked at your site, and I love it! Very creative!
  9. I tried adding a little cocoa butter, it didn't really help. Cocoa also makes my hands look really shiny. I don't know what else to do! LOL This is driving me crazy. Is it supposed to be that way? Am I just wrong? I had my boyfriend try the best one I made, and even HE thought it was greasy, and he uses this weird lotion that I hate because I think it is greasy. So, it must be bad if a person who USES a greasy lotion regularly says it is too greasy, lol
  10. Hi, I have been experimenting with making the shea body butter, and I have used a few different oils and things, and tweaked it a LOT. I can't even say all the things I have tried. I also tried adding a little cornstarch and a lot of cornstarch, but I can't seem to get it right! My shea butter doesn't FEEL (very) greasy, but it LOOKS very greasy on my hands. They are all shiny on the palms, and it takes a while for the shine to go away. Even when I use just plain pure shea, it still looks greasy. What can I do??? I also like my butters sort of firm, especially because of the hot weather right now. My shea butter is refined and deodorized, and it is actually pretty soft because of the heat. I used sweet almond oil, and also added a little beeswax to stiffen it a little. I also tried whipping it, and just melting and pouring. In one 12 oz. (approx) recipe, I tried using from 1 tsp, all the way up to 3 tsp. of cornstarch. I tried using 10% oil up to 40% oil in my testing. I don't know what else to try. Anyone have any advice? Or is this the best I am going to be able to do?
  11. Wow, everyone has great ideas, I am so glad that I found this website! Well, I don't have a lot of bills right now, thank God, so I was thinking that since I am not really tied down, this would be a better time than any to go for it and see if it will work. I guess I am more in a position to take risks because I don't have my own house, and I am not married or have children, so I don't have a lot of the responsibilities that would require me to work. I was thinking that I could do it now, and then maybe build it, so that when I get out of school, I might be able to do it when I DO have those kinds of responsibilities. Maybe if I start now, I can grow and maybe be in a place where I can make a living by the time I get out of school. What do you guys think?
  12. Mine is www.sensationalscentsonline.com but beware, it is still under construction! lol
  13. Hello. Before I start, I am not trying to ask what $ everyone makes, lol I am going to be starting to do craft shows. I make soy candles and incense, and I am now getting into lotions, and bath salts and things like that. I want to eventually do soaps. I am ready to sell, everything is tested and prepared, but I had a question. If you set up at shows, and have a good selection and good prices, can you make a living at it? Or do most of you who go to shows have to have jobs too? I need some input. I go to college right now, but I just started doing this stuff as a business, although I have done it as a hobby for a while. It would be really nice to go to school full time and do crafts, without having to worry about a job. Just school during the week, and shows on weekends. What is everyone's opinion?
  14. Does anyone know of a good place to buy EO anywhere in Ohio, northern West Virginia, or western PA?
  15. Does green tea have any benefits to the skin? I heard somewhere that it did, but I can't remember what it was.
  16. I am going to make lotion, and the preservative I will be using is Liquapar Optima. It says I should use about 0.5% in lotions. So, if I make say a 16 oz batch of lotion, how many drops do I put in? I can figure out what weight it should be, but I can't measure weight that small, lol
  17. Thanks Let me know how it works out!
  18. Okay, thanks I just wasn't sure, because I read somewhere that when you add FO or EO it can get moldy because of the florals and stuff! That is great to know
  19. Thats really neat, thanks a lot!
  20. I have a question about bath salts and teas, etc... I was thinking of making bath salts and bath teas to sell... some of them, I will be using FO and some EO. Since they will be dry ingredients except for the fragrance, do they need a preservative? Or do you just sell them like they are?
  21. hmmm, interesting....what do I search for at their website? Do you have a link for the bags?
  22. Thanks a lot for the ideas and that link, keep em comin! LOL
  23. theres gotta be a way, there's just gotta be! LOL
  24. Try this recipe and let me know how you like it Someone told me about it and I haven't tried it yet, but I will soon, it looks yummy! 1 cup of baking soda 3/4 cup citric acid 1/4 cup of cornstarch 1/4 cup of finely grated cocoa butter (unrefined is best, because of smell, but refined is okay too, since you will be adding FO) 1 teaspoon of cinnamon powder 1/2 teaspoon of allspice 1 teaspoon finely shredded baker's chocolate 10 drops chocolate FO 10 drops vanilla FO Mix the ingredients and spray lightly with witch hazel until it starts to stick together, and mold into balls.
