  1. I'm making my green tea soap, I was picturing a dark green ITP marble swirl, would have been gorgeous, So, mix my soap, get a thin trace, pour off a portion, and dump in my green soap tint. My soap turns bright yellow, add some more hoping to darken it, I get a yellowy florescent green. So, added my FO to my unscented portion, started blended, must have had oil on my gloves because my stick blender flys out of my hand, lands on the bowl of yellowy green soap, sends it spilling all over the counter and down behind my stove. Just as I'm trying to figure out how to save it, my uncoloured portion accelerates ACK!. So i scoop up what i can of the yellow soap, do an itp swirl, I'm just pouring into the mold when my son comes running to the baby gate with armfuls of stuffing in his hands, he unzipped my couch cushion and ripped it apart. What a night. Oh well, I now have a nice batch of florescent yellow green tea soap, hopefully it will darken when it gels, and I've learned to just spend the extra little bit of money on green oxide for next time I make this.

Spent about 20 minutes pulling my stove apart , moving it out of its spot and mopping raw soap off the side of the stove, the counter and the floor, at least now I nol onger have to procrastinate on cleaning out behind it. Looks like the side of my stove may be pernamently tinted this shade too. Luckily I was wearing gloves and goggles and no one was hurt.

Overnight it turned bright bright bright floresant yellow.

    Anyone have a name suggestion?

  2. Cryptic, even with oil and butters you will still need to use a preservative, these oils and butters are mixed in with alot of water when lotion in made.

Don't know how I missed this post in september, but Purple lilac is a great woman! She's helped me out in the same way in the past :)

  3. You can edit it, thats half the fun of soap making, playing with recipies. I noticed alot of the miller recipies do use high coconut. Just remember to recalculate the lye when you are done. Dont bother using extra virgin olive oil in soap, it is way more expensive and it will turn your soap green, I always use the lightest cheapest olive oil I can find.

Good luck with your first batch of soap!

  4. OK, im trying STILL to double wick 16oz apoth jars. I had 4 going yesterday, all were doing great, one seemed a little to hot, i figured it was overwicked. Today I relit them (5th burn, about 18 hours total burn time on each) and today all the flames are smaller, and its taking much longer to get a burn pool. They are still throwing great, i can smell them though a cold and candlenose. The flames are not close to drowning, just smaller. Is it normal for jars to lull at this point. If i wick up, the first burn times would have been much much to hot and would have most likley cracked the glass.

  5. there is no template, there used to be, all you have to do is fold it on a blank sheet of paper then measure the fold lines to figure out where the printing should be, the other idea is to use a label on the back of the bar. As most of us have different bar sizes, a standard template will not work.

I was amazed at how fast and easy this was to fold.

  6. OK here we go:

    1. Organize my workrooms (yes i said rooms, i took over my husbands bar and half the exercise room.)

    2. Pour test and launch my remaining scents of votives. (par. and soy)

    3. Pour test and launch all my scents in 16oz jars. (par and soy) Get labels designed.

    4. Launch bathbombs.

    6. R&D for lotions and body butters.

    7. Launch website.

    8. Setup and launch home parties.

Theres the list for the year, im sure it will get bigger. :)

  7. Hubby and I did farmers Market this week. I had repeat customers and made my booth fee back before I had even put the table cloth on my table. The bread lady ordered 18 candles from me, she ordered 6 last week, and thought they were so great she passed them out to all her friends and told them where she got them. We had several other repeat customers, lots of people asking if we will be back again. The weather was cold yesterday, and the Santa clause parade was on downtown, so attendance was still low , we still managed $150.00 . This is still with low stock of only 5 soap scents and 12 votive scents. Lip balm sales picked up a bit, Clean cotton was still my number 1 seller, and surprisingly my big soap seller this week was the red white and green m&p chunk soap I made and scented candy cane.
