  1. You could, but those stores want $2-$3 a box, which is ridiculous.

If you're in the middle of nowhere I'd suggest Uline or Papermart (depending on which coast you're closer to), or if you live somewhere reasonably urban or suburban, the phone book. I live in a town of around 200k and was surprised to see several box warehouses in town that I could just drive to and purchase boxes in bundles of 25 or more for $.20-$.30 a box.

  2. Shipping cases at a time is best done (IMO) with the "box in box" method. Put the tureens in the box they came in, then put that box in a bigger box and surround it with peanuts or paper or other packing material so it doesn't move around in the bigger box.

You can put more than one case in the bigger box, just make sure it has plenty of packing material around it and all boxes are packed in tightly.

I print out FedEx slips and then drop them off at the FedEx place. If you sell just a little bit, Kinko's has a Fedex store and the one near me sells packing peanuts for around $15 for around 27 cubic feet.

If you're shipping more, or more often, I'd recommend finding a box warehouse/factory within driving distance and getting your packing material there. You'll have to buy more, and boxes are usually sold in bundles of 25 or more, but it's much cheaper per unit.

The $2.50 that Kinko's and FedEx and other retail places want per box is highway robbery.

  3. You probably are having issues because of the soy itself - its just takes more dye than paraffin to achieve the same color, plus its very opaque - so its never going to look the same - basically no depth at all.

    I think that's relative, too.

I've just started dinking around with color, and bought a couple of liquids from CandleScience. I'm getting great saturation with just 4-6 drops per pound (GB444), but it seems to be doing something to the hot throw, even at that low amount.

More testing is of course required now. :)

  4. To be honest I wouldn't be happy with either.

Is there another brand of wick you could try? I have found that even with the same type of wax, the difference in jars and FOs means that sometimes a cotton core that worked great with one FO needs an HTP with another FO in the same jar, or the HTP that worked great in one jar needs a CD with a different jar even though it's the same FO (or vicey-versy, of course).

    Candles are weird.

  5. millcreek's groovy patchouli is strong in pure soy.

I mixed (in a 2oz tin) a sample of MC's patchouli with some Peach that I have (from somewhere else) to test a Peach Patchouli scent...

I burned it tonight and a fly flew into the melt pool and died.

    It must be good. ;)
