1. PM'd you, thanks for the generous offer. I'm really hoping I can get this one to work, going to give it a good try! I will absolutely post pics.
2. I've been looking through the candle gallery and love the embedded pillars. Can the same type of thing be done with a jar? My (hopefully) future sister in law has a grandmother going through breast cancer treatment and I was thinking of a pink ribbon embed on the inside of the jar with a lighter pink soy wax background (scented Angel Wings). If I cut the ribbon from thin wax and heat gun it to the inside then pour the background wax at a low temperature, will it hold until the candle sets? Also, is it ok to use the pink ribbon image? I am not going to sell this candle, it's a personal gift. Thanks!
3. It was very late when I posted and I actually thought I was IN the candle gallery... lol. I've been through those threads many times, believe me! I reposted my pic over there as well... and thank you!
4. I'm never satisfied with the easy way...lol. Poured one candle then had to try layers, poured some more "normal" candles then had to try slanted layers. I think I'm going to attempt some vertical ones soon, I've been inspired by Christina! Update on the candles: the layers still look good, really good adhesion, but I got some frosting overnight and the tops need a blast with the heat gun. Not too bad, though, I'm still very happy with them!
5. I poured the wax then used dish cloths in a bowl to prop the candles on their sides until each layer set. Got lazy at the top and just filled em straight, I think it worked ok, though... lol.
6. Thanks! I had enough wax for 2 so i made two, guess they are a set...lol. I don't sell, these are just for me. just started about 5 weeks ago, still testing, testing, testing!
7. Just posted this in the vegetable wax section, lack of sleep, thought it was the candle gallery...lol. Here it is, my first pic (and first attempt at a slanted layer). Strawberry and banana from the candle source in 100% soy: Got a little frosting, it's a bit too cool in here tonight and the layers aren't exactly perfect, but I like them ok.
8. OK, after pouring a couple dozen candles I am ready to post a pic. These are scented strawberry and banana from the candle source in 100% soy. They're not perfect, but I like em. My first attempt at slanted layers.
9. Love the favors, and I had to try a little of almost everything on your site. Get my email? lol
10. I got my first soy kits on ebay from candlecraftkits. She sells the soy wax and some oils, the ones I got were really nice. Very good shipping rates, too. I also buy from the candle source and the candle tech classifieds... lol.
11. I tried the regular votive cups, they're slightly too small. Thanks, Robin, I'll look for the holders you mentioned. The votives are so nice looking, I really want something to test them in properly.
12. OK, got a good looking octagon votive, smells great, ready to test a bunch of wicks. What the heck do I burn this thing in??
13. all the fragrance oils that I get to throw well are the ones I can't stand? I bought samples of peanut butter cup, spearmint, buttered rum, cherry, cucumber kiwi and gardenia from the same supplier. Poured em all in the same soy wax, same container and let them set for a week or so. The peanut butter cup, spearmint and cucumber kiwi are throwing like crazy, but they STINK!! I LOVE the cherry and gardenia and barely any throw at all. The buttered rum is ok, and no throw. They all smell strong cold. The joys of soy wax, I guess...
14. Test burning a bunch of jars that I made last week, test burning votives for wick sizes, ordering some new stuff to try (4794 and some more wicks). I just finished buring through my 250ml peach jar in soy and it was the PERFECT burn, no soot, burned all the way to the bottom and smelled great to the last drop of wax, and lasted forever so I feel I have a good base wick to start from now, going to test some more scents this weekend. I want to pour some raspberry finally, either raspberries and cream or black raspberry and vanilla, and maybe some blueberry. I'm also making Blues Clues ears for 16 kids for my daughter's party in June. And a life sized Blue and Mailbox. Also decorating the pinata we made together. She's going to be three, it's a fun age!!
15. Ooh, I JUST did this! I made a layered jar candle. The first (bottom) was freesia in light purple, then rose in pink, then jasmine in pale yellow. I made a tag with a wedding graphic in the background and called the candle "Marriage In a Jar". Each flower symbolizes something to do with marriage, "ingredients": freesia - trust, roses - love and jasmine - happiness. So I listed these under the title and then a personal message on the bottom. It turned out well. She was a good friend, so she understood that the layers were not absolutley perfect... lol. I also gave her a gift card...
16. I poured my pearberry over the weekend and they smell AWESOME!!
17. I must have misread, I thought it was stated .5 ounce per POUND, not per 8 ounce container. Sorry. I use at least one ounce per POUND....lol.
18. I'm certainly no expert, but I do use soy in 8 oz containers and I have read many times on this board that a lot of fo's don't throw that well in soy (not that sure about parasoy) and I'm thinking that .5 oz pp might be too little. Try 1 or 1 1/2 oz, see if that makes a difference.
19. Check the candle gallery, I saw a container candle in there with vertical layers, I think it was by Bruce. Maybe the molds are different, I'm not sure, but I'm sure he could help you out.
20. Trying out the bavarian thin mint I got in the co-op, probably votives so I can test some more wicks at the same time.
21. Jelly jars for me, only thing I can find near here and shipping to Newfoundland is a b*tch. $5.88 per dozen. I'm not selling, so the jar needs to only please me...lol.
22. The melonberry smells AWESOME oob, haven't poured it yet, though, saving it for when I really know what I'm doing...lol.
23. The only one I have tried is from the candle source (in paraffin). I like it, smells like cotton candy to me. Their oils are well priced, Loren is great to work with and shipping is very reasonable, might me worth getting a sample, at least...
24. I just started sampling EVERYTHING, not selling (yet, maybe never) but no one would get my strawberry musk.
