  1. Has anyone tried this wax and if so how is it?
  2. Are Beeswax candles as popular as Soy, Coconut, etc? Just wondering because I haven't made any and have only used Beeswax as a hardener. I see the wax for sale at most suppliers but not sure if there is 1 out there that most people purchase from due to quality. I also read to buy directly from farmers that sell it. Any recommendations will be helpful.
  3. Ok, I tried 3%-10% of stearic so far in the 6046. So far the 10% is the winner. Definitely is harder now and getting a real good scent throw on a 2 week cure. Sample jar is a libbey status. Started with a cd8 wick but settled on a cd6. Out of all of my waxes this is the best 1 pour wax so far. It looks perfect every time. After several burns, it doesn't look the best in the jar anymore. Tops look great, but glass adhesion went from flawless to the typical pull away look, but am still liking what stearic did to it. Don't have any Soy right now otherwise I would try a mix with it.
  4. Ahahah, I don't have anymore of it, only the 1 candle that I had sitting for 2 years.
  5. No, because I still have all my wax from before the pandemic. I am just now getting back into making candles again. What I have here is exactly what you described. Hard to cut. I messed a lot with 2281, and its pretty close to 4786 when vybar is added, just not as pretty. Still throws scent pretty good if you need alternative.
  6. Yes it was greasy. When I would scoop it out of the bag it would just be stuck everywhere on the scoop.
  7. I have 3 different candles burning right now, all different waxes and scents. 1 of them is Coconut 83 easy beads from about 2-3 years ago that I purchased. It is overpowering all other candles I have burning. Using a Cd wick, and it still hasn't mushroomed at all, and it is on its 4th burn. The only thing I did to this candle was add 3% beeswax. It cured for 2 years. Does the new formula still throw scent as good as the old formula?
  8. Yah I might try doing that since I have a whole box collecting dust. Did you lose scent throw with that high percentage of stearic?
  9. Need to email George Lucas seeing how they have a bunch of Star Wars candles. I know they didn't get approval on that. Lucas is the King of trademark and would never let them have that. https://secureyourtrademark.com/can-you-trademark/trademark-a-city-name/
  10. Well I don't have any palm or any Beeswax so I tried adding 3% stearic to some 6046 and so far having pretty good results with a cd 8 in a 12oz status jar. about 1 1/2 hr into the burn right now and its about 3/8" from a full melt pool. No mushroom yet.
  11. Yah I think it is one of the best pre blended paraffin for containers , definitely one of the prettiest tops ( 2 pour unfortunately). Only problems I have with it is the high flame you get off the first light and it gets tiny bubbles some times. I like the semi translucent look it has. It looks old fashioned in clear jars. Must be a good wax because I see it sold out everywhere.
  12. Mine haven't really been smokey, but I do use one of those Yankee candle tops that keep the wind out of the candle, so my flame is always pretty good. I also found some here that I used Zinc wicks with pretty good results with slight mushroom, but that is the nature of the beast with those wicks. Gonna try out igi 1230 pretty soon. I want a wax that can either get great mottle or none at all unlike the 1286. I have added vybar to the 1286 and yah no mottle, but didn't look good.
  13. As for me, I use wood wicks all day in any wax that is a vegetable blend. I haven't had any of the problems listed above yet, maybe I have just gotten lucky. I find that wood wicks solve all wicking problems you get with a regular wick in these waxes, especially the mushroom. Scent throw is fast which I like. Downside is midway through the candle the wax is ugly because of the wood wick ash. I live in Orange County, CA, and the wood wick is apparently a thing here because every craft market we come across that has a candle store all use wood wicks. I think everyone here buys from Makesy since it is local for us because all the candles I see here use their jars. I do not use wood in Paraffin, its just too easy of a wax to wick.
  14. I actually have a bag of the 6046 when it first came out, but all the candles I made with it have sweaty tops. If there is a way to stop that Id be interested. Are you adding Palm oil or the Palm wax granules? I have tried the Granules and didn't like the finished texture it gave me.
  15. Well first let me tell you, the box of the 1286 I have is 2 years old, so you might be right in saying you got a bad batch. I have only gotten one bad batch from IGI and that was the 4630, I posted on it showing pictures. As far as what I do with 1286 is i heat the wax to 200ish, usually im a little higher if I don't watch the Presto pot Immediately add coloring and mix, then I add the fragrance 6% anywhere between 185 and 200 stir till blended and pour. I have used Vybar 343 a few times but didn't really notice a difference. I use the libbey storage jars, the same one Yankee uses. All the jars I pour into are heated in the oven. As far as wicks, I have tried lx, cd, htp, paper core, Zinc, pretty much anything I have and they all worked. I would tell you the size wick, but I havn't made candles since the Pandemic started, and my wife seems to have lost my notebook with all of my notes so......yah, so I am having to go through all that wick testing again. However, I do know that the wick I have in the ones here at home all have CD wicks only because they have so many sizes and I can always get them. I have never used a small jelly jar, all the candles I pour with that wax are 1lb or more. I will poor a small jar tonight and see how it is as well.
  16. Weird because out of all of my waxes the 1286 probably has the best hot and cold throw. Never had a problem with it.
  17. I used to love the 83 about 2 years ago, but now I keep reading the formula has changed and every batch is different. Is this true or have they finally got it dialed in?
  18. I actually have 1 bag of this wax from whenever this wax came out. I don't remember it being very good. However, it does look good, maybe I can tweak it a little and try it again.
  19. All I use is Paraffin. Just the ease of wicking is such a relief. You can't go wrong with IGI 4786 or one that I blend is IGI 2281 / IGI 4627, or either of those on their own. If I could get 2281 to not bubble, the rustic translucent look of that wax with color is nice, but any additives change that. If you like the Yankee candle mottled look IGI 1286 never changes and throws as good or better than Yankee. The 1286 is my favorite. I have always liked the mottled wax even the ugly tops look great to me. The 4786 is a pretty wax with or without color. I use it for Luxury candles with painted jars. One thing about 4786 is the wick needs to be trimmed under 1/4 because the first burn tends to cause a big flame. I posted a video showing this in this forum. Hope this helps.
  20. Funny you mention the 83. I have one burning right now that I made 2 years ago that I added 3% beeswax. Its burning nice with a cd wick.I read that it is completely different now. Have you used the new formula yet, if so is it better or worse?
  21. You can delete that account if you want I probably won't use it. Whichever Coconut wax is the go to, or if there really isn't one is there a pure Coconut base for blending that you recommend?
  22. Been out of the candle making since the pandemic started and am trying to get back into it again (previous acct CaptnKush) hope everyone is doing great. Paraffin is my favorite wax, but all I see selling now is Coconut or Soy. Was wondering, which Coconut wax has the most positives? I see what makesy has, but not liking their $200 price tag. Any suggestions for a pre-blend or is it better to just try to make my own, and if thats the case which coconut base should I use?
  23. Previously CaptnKush. Back from a long hiatus and ready to torture myself with candles again 🤣
