  1. I wanted to know if anyone has ever used belly balm for itching when not pregnant. I have a friend that is suffering from severe itching from liver disease and I wanted to send him somthing that would help but Im not sure if the recipies that I have seen for belly balm would work or not.
  2. I want to try this but I don't have the crystals and I actually don't want it to smell minty. Should I up the EO/FO or the other ingredients? I'm figuring upping the salts is the best but Im not sure.
  3. well, I usually use the putty/tape method on my other molds, but that always leaves a little lump on the bottom. Im not aversed to using a wickpin, it's just the image I get in my mind of candles made with them is those cheapy ones that have the hole in them that is bigger than the wick.
  4. Always remember to put your hair up when you are working with melted wax. That's an accident that took months to correct.
  5. flat top. I had the idea to set them atop a muffin tin, but I wanted to see if those that have worked with them before had other ideas.
  6. so how do you prewick a seemless mold? I can't figure out how you would do it so that it would not tilt around on the plug over the hole Jorie
  7. Finally, after two years, I have used up the case of Dream wax that I got from NG. But now I am at a loss as to what to buy now since the Dream wax was discontinued. Im interested in the new Pillars of Bliss that NG now sells since the soy/paraphin blend is appealing and I like that it is granulated. Has anyone tried this? I am also open to suggestions of other pillar waxes to try. I have to say that I am looking for a wax that already has all the addatives in it but it doesn't have to be a one pour. Granulated would be nice too, since slabs are such a pain in the arse. Jorie
  8. thanks for all your advice. To me is sounds that at the moment using FO's would be better than using EO's since all I really want to impart is scent and many of my friends have complicated medical issues so I wouldn't want to run the risk of a bad reaction from them. I will look into brambleberry and call to the local shelters once I start making a bar that I am happy with. being near chicago Im guessing someone will want them.
  9. thanks, that did help, but now I am wondering is it better to scent the cane and put an uncented votive in the middle, the reverse or is it best to scent both?
  10. I want to start getting into making soaps and I have three questions, 1. When a project calls for one or more EOs, do I have to use those or can I sub with an FO that I already have on hand? what is the value to the soap process of the EO besides scent? 2. Are there any videos on the two types of lye soap-making processes? I know there are some good books out there and the step by step guides here are helpful, but for me the more visuals on the subject the better. 3. I plan to do this as a hobby and have no intention to even think of making it into a business for a few years at least, so my question is, what do I do with all that soap when I finish making it? I mean the average batch makes several bars that will each keep you clean for a few weeks at the least and while my friends love getting my freebies as some point they will have more then they could use as well. This to me is one of the biggest barriers to starting to make my own soap.
  11. 1. Where is the best place to buy the supplies needed (mold, mold weights, the carrier thingy) I live in IL 2.does this tecnique work with vellum or just paper? 3. What is the best way to package this to prevent the finished product from breaking during shipping? TIA Jorie
  12. best way to describe what I am looking for is to say that I am looking for a scent that one might use for a money candle. Something that smells good oob because I am using it on an air freshener. I tried looking up what flowers may be considered lucky but didn't find anything.
  13. I am getting ready to make candles for xmas and I have decided to buy Christmas Splendor since it seems to come so highly recommended but I can't decide on a second scent. Im leaning towards somthing peppermint since the sugar cookie types tend to make me gag. any suggestions?
  14. What I am actually looking for is a dupe for Annie Oakley's Indian Musk but I will settle for a Gardenia musk as that's what it says it's supposed to smell like on the back of the bottle.
  15. thanks for the replies, especially since it seems that I some how put this in the wrong topic section.
  16. Does any one know of a supplier that makes a good 2 in 1 shampoo conditioner base or a 3 in 1 base similiar to the 3 in 1 shampoo, body wash, bubble bath that philiosophy sells? Seems like a good thing for pamper gift baskets.
  17. I don't know. I used this last year to make candles for a party my parents were hosting. One of my parent's friends said this one smelled like the doe in heat spray he uses when he hunts. Either that or it was the black magic one. I can't remember exactly.
  18. does anyone know if there is a insert mold or a stamp that is in the awareness ribbon shape? all i have seen so far is embeds and while I have an idea for those the insert option is more what I am looking for.
  19. I have two questions, first I saw a recipie similar to this that had kaolin clay in it. Ive now bought some but I can't find the recipie. Do you think I can just put it in place of the cocoa powder in this recipie or is it a replacement for something else? Second, I made an all butter version that didn't work out. How much of the dry ingrediants do you think I need to add to possibly save the batch?
  20. I don't know about fabric softener, but if the end goal is to scent the clothes just put a few drops of the desired scent onto a dry old face towel and throw it into the dryer with the laundry instead of a dryer sheet.
  21. I got an email yesterday saying that you can now get insurance through Soap Guild as part of the membership. Does anyone have more information on this?
  22. Isn't there something similar to this in the recipies section? I think it is called bath jelly.
  23. what do you think about adding menthol crystals to it? I love carmex and would love to find a way to make that in a tube form.
  24. Is there a differance to the recipies that are pure bars and the ones that are made for push up tubes?
