  1. somebody already did a year ago, found it in the archives when I was searching the web. It had deadended with no answer. I was hopeing someone here might know.
  2. Caprylic/Capric Triglycerides, Tribehnin, C18-36 Acid Triglycerides, Aloe Vera, Tocophyrl Acetate I was looking for chamois butter, which for those that don't know it is a cream that long distance athletes use to prevent chaffing. The formula is for bodyglide. It comes in a deoderant stick which made me curious, since most come in malibu tubes. I know that the first one is FCO, the last is Vitamin E and the aloe vera is obvious. The other two I tried to look up on yahoo but only got them as ingrediants in other things. My intention is not to replicate this, but I figure that if I know all what is in it I can find or create a recipie that is similar. It is also because I find it annoying that the company claims that this is an all natural product but fails to put the common names of the ingrediants next to the INCI names.
  3. It's the store's brand GFS. I figure I can use it in most things since it is basically FD&C colors in Proplyne Glycol, but I wanted to double check.
  4. is there any product that this might not be good to color with? I found some for 10 dollars a liter at a local catering store and so I wonder if I can get pleanty of use from it. Also how do you get it off? My hands are covered after making Carmen's Silky suds last night.
  5. At what point do you add the preservative?
  6. If you add sugar or salt to make it a scrub, would you need to add more preservative?
  7. Just a quick question, what is the purpose of the cream of tartar? Can it be subbed with anything? I went to the store to get some of this and it was like 8 bucks for a 2 ounce bottle.
  8. When is just using Vitamin E ok for a preservative? My assumption would be that it only prevents rancidity of the oils but I'm not sure.
  9. Citrus aurantifolia - lime Thank you all for your help so far. One question though, is this the fruit or the mineral?
  10. Ok here it goes. I couldn't find Avalon's but I did find Tom's, Alba's and Kiss my face. Tom's has a soap base, but I included it because from the list it was not made via a lye process as far as I can tell. Alba's clearly states that it is non soap and I can't figure out Kiss my Face. Tom's mint shave cream Water Coconut oil Potassium stearate* Sodium strearate* Olive oil peppermint oil Tocopheryl Acetate jojoba oil *states that the source for both is veggie soap Alba's moisture cream shave A certified organic herbal infusion of birch leaf, green tea, lavender, calendula and yarrow aloe barbadensis lanolin polysorbate 20 jojoba oil e wax methylparaben FO tocopherol Kiss my Face vanilla earth moisture shave water Potassium myristate* sodium myristate* Propylene glycol TEA stearate Coconut oil Olive oil Aloe vera Vitamins A&D Tocopherol Acetate Allantoin Lecithin Extracts of lime, peppermint, lady's mantle, soapwort, horsetail, watercress, lemongrass, sage, goldenseal, orange flower and Arnica Hydroxyethylcellulose Methylparaben Propylparaben FO Sodium benzoate Kiss my Face peaches and cream moisture shave Water Potassium myristate* Sodium myristate* Propylene glycol TEA stearate coconut oil olive oil aloe vera Retenol Tocopherol Acetate Allantoin Lecithin Citrus aurantifolia Alchemilla vulgaris Saponaria officialis L Mentha piperita Equisetum arvense Cymbopogon schoenanthus Salvia officinalis Hydrastis canadensis Citrus dulcis Arnica Montana Hydroxyethylcellulose Methylparaben Propylparaben FO Sodium benzoate *derived from plant oil
  11. Avalon Organics, Kiss My Face, and Alba all make a non-soap cream shave that I am eager to try and replicate, but I can't find a recipie that seems similar. Is there a way to analyze the ingrediants list to guestimate what the general formula would be? I obviously don't want to try to crack the code on the exact combinations these companies are using, but this product really interests me.
  12. I made these friday using Bunny's formulation. They are scented true rose. They came out a bit grainy feeling but I think that was because a bit more baking soda got into the bowl then was needed. I now have two questions. Do these need to cure and if I wanted to tweak this how do I determine the amount of something when it is not an oil? I figure I can do a 1 to 1 replacement of the cocoa powder for milk powder but Im not sure about the oatmeal or honey that I also wanted to try.
  13. Ok I want to try this but I am a bit of a newbie to the B&B stuff. Since you say that you CPHPed this so does that mean there is lye in it?
  14. To be perfectly honest, I think no matter what internet translation you use, you are still going to need a real person to translate for you. This is for two reasons; first because the internet translating systems are very litteral and don't understand context differences, and secondly because meanings can can vary greatly between dialects. My mom's work experinced this once when they got in some translated pamphlets for their clinic. To the mexicans it read " bring this to the clinic on this date" However to the puerto ricans it read "drink this in the clinic on this date". Needless to say it caused problems. Probably your best bet would be to take a course somewhere before summer. Thatway you will have someone that can reliably translate for you and if it's their native language can look at it from the same perspective that your customer would and possibly give you Q&A translations for things you may not have considered.
  15. It really depends on your relationship with you mother. If you think you can make her understand why it upsets you then go ahead, if not pretend that it got stolen or eaten by the car wash machine. Although this may create a situtation that She will make another one in which case you can bring up the idea that the tag line to you seems misleading.
  16. well Im not sure if these will work since they are in one of my candle books but I guess they may give you a place to start since many companies here sell both, so I would guess its the same there. 17. Well I guess that's what I meant. In caddyshack there is the candybar everyone thinks is a turd. It would be the kind of thing to have on the table for the guy being dragged around the craft fair by his wife to consider as she shops your table. I don't know it sounded like a good idea when it first came to me.
  18. oh I think you could still use the the powder you'd just have to market it differently. You could put it into mini candy bar molds and sell it as a gag gift ala caddyshack
  19. Thanks bunny, actually I thought of something else today, what if you wanted to make something like chocolate marshmellow? Would it be better to use the deodorized cocoa butter and use mix of FO's or use the regular stuff and just add the secondary scent? Oh and when in the process would you add the FO?
  20. While I admit that I have never made a b&b product from scratch before, based on what I have read here I wonder for those that find the melts boring if you could try adding FBB or SLSA to the mix and make a solid bubble bath out of it.
  21. anyone try SoS's? Seems to have rave reviews for it on their website.
  22. I was considering doing something like this and was wondering if there is a way to determine pouring temp or do you simply have to just keep testing till you find it?
  23. perhaps this should be moved to the veggie wax board.
  24. I am thinking of creating my own blend for my pillars and I have a few questions. First, my local supplier has two soy pillar waxes, the cheaper of the two says that it needs palm steric, would this still be necessary if I am adding to a pillar preblend that already has some in it? Second, is there a way to determine at what temp it can be poured at or is it just trial and error? Finally, since it is soy they are going to need to be cured, so how do I cure a pillar? Do I simply leave it alone for a week or two or do I need to put them in an airtight container, and if I need to contain, do all candles need to be the same scent in the container?
  25. I know that there is a template on candle caudron. Does anyone use that?
