  1. What are your favorite nuts scents?

I've tried BCN Chestnuts & Brown Sugar and could not get that to throw in my soy wax no matter what I did.

I've also got Maple from BCN as well but to me it just doesn't do (too sweet).

I'm not big on Hazelnut but I thought I'd try it to see if it would sell around here.

    Any recommendations?

  2. OK another HTML dummy here so please be kind! I just signed up with Mal's yesterday and I've gotten the shopping cart settings done to my preference. The question is how the hell do I link all my 'add to cart' buttons from my sitebuilder to the proper link? I know very little html and I've spent hours reading the FAQ's, support, looking up the archives here to no avail. I know I have a domain link assigned when I set up with my account. Are you supposed to type in a link for each and every item?

I do know how to highlight and link from my sitebuilder but just don't know where to link them to.

I really don't want to spend another 20 hours doing this as I've done enough just building my website and getting it going.

    Thanks for any help!:o

  3. I just did some calculations on this. Say if over a year you purchase 100 pounds of oils and based what they stated you would be charged 30% higher than the wholesale cost to reflect her staff costs and expenses and you end paying (with membership fee) 13.35 per pound plus shipping for the first year then 11.40 in the second year. It would be higher the lesser pounds you buy. On top of this you have the added work of blending the scents yourself.

    For 100 pounds of oils

    Manufacturer's cost $8 pp

    Membership fee $295

    30% buying cost

    100 x 8 = $800

    800 x 30%= 240 + 800=$1040

    1040 + 295=$1335

    1335 / 100 = $13.35 pp

For 50 pounds in the first year it's $16.30 pp! Then it's $12.40 in the second year.

I understand they have to make money in this but the 30% add on is way too much and it's just not worth it for us on a smaller business base.

    I'll definitely pass;)

  4. well, the e-book is very nicely done. But after spending hours of research here and on the web there wasn't anything that the ebook told me that I didn't already know. For somebody who doesn't know their way around the web themselves enough to research, it might be a good investment though.

Thanks everyone. I was thinking you'd tell me that 8 oz might be a lot of salt for one bath for most people.

I thought the ebook is pretty handy. It certainly has alot of information in one place. I've learned so much from this ebook in such a short time that I thought it was worth the investment than spending hours on the internet for the same info if not some of it.:D

  5. OK, I am addicted to this website and already have a few of the oils and love them. Not sure if it's the site itself or the scent names that get me. Has anyone tried these:

    Butterfly Hugs

    Cinderella

    Beach Baby

    Memories

    Kama Sutra - Passionate Kisses?

Dido, I just ordered my first oils before Christmas and now I just received my second order today.

I got the Butterfly Hugs which I really like OOB very floral and light.

Cinderella is another I haven't tried in soy. OOB it's pretty strong so I won't judge yet until I test. I just poured Rice Petal & Shea, Blackberry Sage and Yuzu tonight. They all smell really really good! I agree it must be their descriptions that kept luring me to the shopping cart,LOL!

  6. hey, thanks! Form your good reviews, I will definately try them, thanks much.

for specifics, I was wondering about Fantasy, Bedtime bath (got your reviews, thanks), and Raspberries and cream. Any other 'dupe' type as well. thanks!

Bedtime Bath is dead on, one of my best sellers!

I haven't tried Fantasy but I just got 'Be Delicious' and it's dead on to the perfume.

Pink Sugar is a big seller too. (very strong hot and cold throw)

Other dupes that are hot sellers for me:

    Sage & Citrus

    Strawberries & Champagne

    Sweet Pea

    Warm Vanilla Sugar

    Love Spell

You must try Black Magic ( I renamed it Black Forest), it's very mystical and magical.

Have fun ordering!! Loren is awesome to deal with!:grin2:

  7. I know The Candle Source ship 8 lb bottles in flat rate box for $9.10 anywhere in US. He packages them neatly and in ziplock bags. I'm in Canada so I really envy you guys with the cheaper flat rates. I only wish they have that option for us Canadians, not the smaller flat rate boxes which only fit 3 lb bottles and that's at $9 per box!:undecided

  8. Thanks Daria thats a brilliant idea that I'm going to have to try out tomorrow.

Most of the dyes I've got are concentrated blocks that come in tubs so I just scrape off as much as I decide is enough....not accurate for replication but I like the uniqueness.

I've got some old spoons that I don't use for food but being the hoarder I am I haven't thrown them out.

I don't usually dye my soy, I like it natural, but I really like that effect so coloured soy may well be on the list for me.

Thanks for sharing your ideas with us.

    Sally.:D

That IS a cool looking candle and I agree it looks like the Northern Lights!

As for melting the wax in the spoon over a flame I'd be careful where you doing it especially if you're using a lighter as a flame and your window opened for the nosy neighbours to see, LOL! I have a huge complex facing my kitchen window and I always worry what they think when when I'm using odd equipment for my candlemaking late at night. I really need to get a window covering.:o

    Great work!

  9. Did you burn to the bottom with the 73s? Alot of hangup will melt off with the bottom third of those pots since they are slightly smaller at the bottom, the heat rises up the sides and melts off.

    -Kristi

Actually the 73's now burning cleaner with no hangups on the second burning but it's still turning the wax gray. I think I'll try to wick down and see if that will stop the gray. Isn't testing fun???:tongue2:

  10. I just started testing those little flower pots using ECO CB advanced soy. MY problem is the wicking.

First I tried HTP 73 and it was leaving hangups on the sides so I wicked up to 83 on another which seem to do the job but once they have cooled the top part of the wax turned to a grey color which is obviously a sign of sooting going on.

I'm using 1.0 oz of Gardenia and no color. Do I need to wick down even though it may leave hangups? I know I have some LX wicks somewhere but my main wicks are HTPs

Any help is appreciated. I did a search but not enough info.

  11. Cute country candle, right? Love the top. It has "Country Canning" embossed on it. Cute, prim style label.

Here's the bottom. Made in China. :lipsrseal No warning label, of course.

    100_0624.jpg

Wow, you can see the wick tab is not even glued on and it looks like there are pigments all over too. No it wouldn't tick me off, it would only encourages smart customers to buy local quality candles!!

  12. I came across a wholesale website that sells vintage labels and now for the life of me I can't remember what it was.I've cleared my history so I can't trace it that way. They were extremely reasonable in prices and they carry home and garden items as well.

I should have bookmarked it (actually I thought I did) as I was jumping for one website to another and had about 3 or 4 websites opened at the same time. I'm just terrible for that, lol!!

Do any of you know which site carries vintage labels?

    Thanks!

  14. I know there are sites to find a particular scent but what about combining different scents to find a name for them? Are there any sites for this purpose?

For example you enter vanilla, musk, raspberry and get a scent name or name suggestions for the combination.

    Shannon

  15. Thanks for the suggestions. I've put in my order. I was really tempted with the black magic one, it sounded great, but couldn't find any scent descriptions, so could someone please describe it to me?

    Thanks

It's a very unique scent, a blend of pine without being too overpowering along with some spices. I know I'm not good at it but it's getting be popular around here. I renamed it 'Black Forest' so it's not too Halloweeny

  16. You can't go wrong with Loren's oils. He has excellent customer service and will answer any questions you may have quickly. The only oil I didn't care for is Country Bumpkin, it's a hit a miss for me with customers here.

These I carry regularly and they throw excellent in soy!

    Soothing Lavender-big seller
