  1. I don't have any advice on how to make FO, but some suppliers will make a custom scent for you. I think you could try Nature's Garden, or Royal Aromatics. These are both in the links page on this forum. Or you might want to try just mixing existing FO's to create your scents, this is quite common. Hope this helps. Cheers Janette
  2. Just about to add Pink Sugar (NG) to my line, but want a name that doesn't have "pink" in it. Sweet Vanilla Musk? Any suggestions will be much appreciated. TIA. Cheers Janette
  3. Vybar in the right amount, helps wax hold more FO. However, if you use too much vybar it can stop the scent from throwing. I use vybar almost always, but at 1/4 tsp per pound in IGI 1242. I don't have any trouble getting rich colours at that proportion, and scent throw is great. Maybe try using less vybar and see if that helps. Cheers Janette
  4. Sudsnwicks: Thanks for the link to that thread. Topofmurrayhill: Thanks for posting your findings. All of you are soooo helpful. Thanks to all. Cheers Janette
  5. Hi Deanna, I don't understand why you have to pay any fees above the $5.00 and the GST. Were the goods you purchased not produced in North America? I never pay any fees other than above, for goods from the US, if sent by Post. As for the declared value being $150, I suspect the sender insured the goods for that amount, why is anyone's guess. Perhaps they hope it gets lost and then they can collect more on insurance, no idea. Why don't you contact the seller and ask them what is up? Hope you solve this one. Cheers Janette
  6. Hi Deana, You should not be paying any duty on products bought from the U.S. Did this shipment come through UPS? If so, you have paid brokerage fees to UPS, not duty. Canadians must pay GST on goods from the U.S. but not duty (as long as the goods were produced in the U.S.) If this shipment came to you through the mail, I would head down to the Post Office and see what's up. Check with the Canadian suppliers that wre mentioned in your previous thread. I think you could have gotten those same supplies in Canada for the same cost or less. Cheers Janette
  7. I agree completely!!! I feel that the scare tactic is bad. Honestly, each wax has its ups and downs and are suited for particular purposes. Soy has drawbacks also, why not list these. Sorry, but I think trashing paraffin is the wrong way to go and misleading. Janette
  8. Awesome! Love both colours. Cheers Janette
  9. Thanks!!!! I found all sorts of things in my spam folder, including my reply from Peaks. I honestly have never even looked in there before. Cheers Janette
  10. Pour hotter and hit the outside of the mould with a heat gun as soon as you pour it, this should end the jump lines and help fill in surface holes. Poke relief holes as soon as possible to release any air. I pour my chunks @ 180. Your almost there! Cheers Janette.
  11. Thanks for the help. I will send an email to them now. I thought everything wnet through fine but not sure wince no confirmation. Cheers Janette
  12. I placed my first order with Peaks, online, on Thurs. Just wondering if I should have gotten an email confirmation by now. I know it was a holiday in the US on Thur. Should I call to check with them? Cheers Janette
  13. They look grrrrreat!!! Nice job. Isn't it fun when you get to first see how they turned out? Cheers Janette
  14. Hello Storm35, Welcome. Many suppliers sell a product called something like Rub on Colour, or Rub n Buff. Try www.pourette.com, I'm sure I have seen it there. Some really shiny candles are coated with gloss. Plexigass or Acrylic moulds can also produce very shiny candles. Good luck getting back into candles. Have fun. Cheers Janette
  15. I prefer colour blocks. I use only the primary colours and mix my own shades. I have used liquid dye in the past but found that it often had a fuel smell. I didn't try very many types of liquid though, so perhaps some are better than others. Cheers Janette
  16. I would also like to find a good "skunk bud" FO. Here in B.C. the atmosphere is very liberal where pot is concerned. I think there may be a reasonable market for a good FO. I don't think it will fly here unless it is realistic though. Top; Do you sell your Mary Jane candles? If so, do they go over well as a fragrance? I'm looking at targeting head shops, as there are a lot here. Cheers Janette
  17. This weekend is all Hurricanes for me. I've spent far too much time experimenting lately and its time to catch up on the things I should have been doing. BrandNewToCandles: Sounds like you'll have a fun weekend. Cheers to all Janette
  18. I'm waiting for my sample from Peaks. Glad to hear good reviews of it. I live on the West Coast of B.C. I think this could be a good scent for sales if I can find a way to market it without offending those who might be uncomfortable with the idea. Does anyone have any input on marketing the FO? I was thinking of change the name to something like "Cash Crop", try to make it a bit humourous. What do you all think? Cheers Janette
  19. I use paraffin, no soy, but I have found several NG oils that I love. I am waiting for more sample to arrive. I think there prices are lower because they actually make the FOs. Many suppliers are just repackaging product, and this may account for some of the price difference. JMO, but try some samples and see how they work for you. NG's customer service was good also. Cheers Janette
  20. I am also very sensitive to scents and use a respirator most of the time. More than likely, we should all be using a respirator all the time. I don't think that the scents are dangerous when burning a candle. However, those of us who spend hours and hours each day standing over a pot of wax with FO should likely be protecting ourselves. The respirator isn't very comfortable to wear, especially when it is hot but I think the discomfort is worth the protection.
  21. Thanks to all for your help. I am always amazed at how quickly the responses come in on this forum, its great!!! Cheers Janette
  22. I keep all my scents seperate, even when wrapped. If you mix them together the scents seem to mingle together, but go back to normal when seperated again, or burnt. It doesn't really damage anything to mix them but you will have a hard time smelling individual scents this way. Hope that made sense. Cheers Janette
  23. I use note books. One for making and one for burning/throw. In my notebook for making I date the top of the page to help keep track. In the notebook for burning I use one page for each candle and log burn times, melt pool, wick trimming, throw etc. I used to use scraps of paper, but could never find things. Hope this helps Cheers Janette
