  1. Oh I know someone else can answer this better....maybe do a search on the board for "lye" cuz this was discussed not to long ago when we found out about Red Devil discontinuing. Seems to me that you can have more than 2# shipped in the same box, as long as they are packaged in 2# increments (again, go figure). Check out some of the links for on-line lye suppliers at the top of the board, they may explain more about shipping regs.
  2. Haz-Mats are not allowed in moving vans, either do-it yourself (like U-Haul) or pro movers like Atlas. :undecided
  3. Heh heh....Top, I think you and I are the only two who think that way ! And I agree, try warming your wax a bit more.
  4. It was the paint itself. With all 8 lit, there was enough heat produced down inside that the paint on the sides of the bucket flashed. They had a full-blown blow torch going on their table. Same thing happened when the FD repeated the procedure.....and it only took a bout 5 minutes of burning before it happened. In this case, it wasn't a matter of not reading the instructions. The instructions did not state at all how many to burn (although it seems simple to me :undecided ), that's why they've issued the warning, to specify burn only one tealight at a time. Course, it also didn't say to burn all eight, but they did that anyway.
  5. OK,,so I believe this recall originated from our town (well, the closest real sized town, lol). About 3 weeks ago there was an article in the paper about a family who had purchased this product at our local Price Chopper supermarket. They were burning it on their kitchen table at dinner table when it burst into flames and destroyed their dining table and rug below. Thank god they were at least smart enough to not leave the house when it was lit, and they did have a fire extinguisher on hand. They notified the FD, who came and took the second item they had back to the FD and tested in an identical fashion, of course the same thing happened. The State Fire Marshall was contacted, as was the CPSC, and now I've just received the e-mail from the CPSC about this product issuing a warning about how to use it properly. This is a problem of stupid people. Granted, the instructions were not clear AT ALL, but I think common sense would have prevented the fire. Problem is, too many people in this world have none, so this should serve as a good warning to all of us as to why proper instructions ar sooo important!! As you'll see in the recall, for proper use, you should only burn ONE (1) tealight at a time in the bucket. These people burned all eight at once.......DOH! http://www.cpsc.gov/cpscpub/prerel/prhtml06/06012.html
  6. LMAO!!! My first thought too.....
  7. Fern is exactly right. You have air pockets. Relief holes are a MUST with these waxes, don't let the nice flat surface deceive you . Palm is kind of a unique creature, you can't compare it to soy or paraffin. It does it's own thing and you'll learn very quickly what that is, lol.
  8. I have some info from somewhere that indicates approximately 33 drops per gram. Convert you amount to grams (28.35x.012=.34) then multiply that times 33....your .012 should be the equivalent of 11 drops. As for scales, OldWillKnot has a great selection with very fine measurements. Mine goes to .XX5 ox. and .1g which is perfect for your need. Think mine was about $80. I use it ALL the time, makes making small batches of anything soooo easy. Worth every penny. HTH.
  9. Looks good, but I found something that may be specific to my browser (Firefox) or just the way you're testing it on that page? The drop downs work, but everything disappears when you move your mouse away, leaving the white rectangle frame over the rest of the page. Can't even click on the "close window" button cause it all disappears. Refreshing the page doesn't make the frame go away either, I'm left with a white space :embarasse....is it just me?
  10. Actually, I don't hink you'll need ther stearic. M38 is a mottling wax and it mottles great with little effort! Just add your color and FO and have at it.
  11. I'm another me...who's we, lol. Gotta agree with everyone. I don't think you can get away with using the company name "9 times" in your letter, might sound a little egotistical ...but a mix of both should work well. You'll just have to read it out load and place each in it's appropriate place. Good look Sybil....(just kidding!)
  12. Click-N-Ship is currently down
  13. Unless you continue to heat at 200° after adding your FO, you're fine. Add your FO, turn off the heat and let it cool, no problems.
  14. Yup....store lighting will do the same thing as the sun. UV always.
  15. Thank You!!! That wasn't the one I was looking for, but it works I finally found the one I was after though, I knew it was an HTML..here it is if it helps anyone. Gives the specific flash point range for/how shipping USPS. http://pe.usps.gov/text/dmm/C023.htm
  16. OK, I know that somewhere on the USPS site it lists the info regarding shipping liquids, and specifi allowable flash points, etc. but I'll be damned if I can find it. Can anyone send me the link? Help. Thanks. :highfive:
  17. Now Top, you should know better. 50 lashes with a wet noodle:whip:, lol!
  18. Hey Meredith....no, never been, but been by there. You are one brave woman, lol! Patchouli is not something I care for, that's for sure. I'm a native of the Willits/Ukiah area (right on 101) so everyone that goes to Reggae, and the Redwood Run as well, would go through town.....geesh!
  19. Well, patchouli always reminds me of the thousands of peeps that head up to "Reggae on the River" in NorCal, so my suggestion is... "Happy Hippie"
  20. Heh heh....not! The reasoon I say it like that is I've seen a few suppliers that advertise "Aluminum tins"...Candlewic being the most obvious. All their tins are identified as "Aluminum"...and they're not. I've e-mailed them and pointed it out, saying it could be very misleading to someone who wants to buy them and maybe use them for products containing water...like salts maybe. They never change it though. Seamless tins are made of steel. HTH.
  21. BOy....you can buy an awful lot of Presto's for $480 . I love my Presto's! I don't do repours, just zap w/a heat gun so that's not an issue, but I agree nwith J, why not just melt your top off wax in the presto? Also, try saving your top off wax in a small metal creamer, then you can just heat it up when your ready on a candle warmer. Works great, much less to clean. HTH.
  22. HEAT!! Some scales circuits are closer to the top and touchy to heat, they will do exactly what you're saying. Try putting a paper plate (I use the Chinet type since they are thicker) on your scale then your container, and pour. Bet you won't have any problems.
  23. Sure doesn't take long when you buy, I know mine shipped out the same afternoon I bought it
  24. Oh man that sucks!! I'd be in serious panic mode w/o my scale. Got mine from Old Will too, 'bout 2 years ago, no probs. Hope they can help... quick!
  25. Here's the link http://www.astm.org/cgi-bin/SoftCart.exe/index.shtml?E+mystore It's used internationally, in all types of products. HTH.
