lol me!  Tho to be fair i am not making things to sell just for personal usage or for potential holiday gifts so i don't need alot.  Tho this sale is kinda tempting i am gonna try to hold out and not buy anything else i have a ton of oil samples i need to mess with first lol.

  2. It is sad that most of the main waxes used for candles all cause some form of environmental damage as well as loss of habitats for certain plants and animals.  It is also sad that no matter what your thinking is on the different waxes it really won't have an effect on that main resources growth and sales.  Even if none bought more of that wax it really would not matter in the end due to the fact that only a small percentage of that resource is going to wax.  There are so many products on the market that carry some form of byproduct from oil, soybeans, and palm that the waxes really aren't gonna effect it all that much one way or another.  Probably the least effecting wax is beeswax.  tho i imagine there are some issues with that wax as well as far as how it is collected.  I for one respect every ones choices on why they choose wax a over wax b and c.  Cause like others have said we all look at  the possible pros and cons and choose the one we feel works best or the one we think is least effecting natural environments.

@Sarah S Ok, I like the 1/2" as well.  Do you trim the little peaks around the edges?  Also, my beads are not completely melted smooth on top.  Are yours?  I'm baking at 350 for 10 minutes which is longer than suggested as it is.

    GoldieMN

I baked mine at 370 for roughly 7 minutes and the top is still slightly bumpy abut i dont know that you can get the top smooth unless there is something on it to force the melted beads together. i wasn;t trying to get a smooth top just basing the time to bake them off someone else that has used the same beads.

Some of the newer ones I have been tried...

Fallen Leaves - I didn't care for this one. I pick up a cologne smell but that may just be me

Hot Apple Pie - I'm not impressed with this one. I can't smell it real well. It is in wax I decided not to use though because I was having trouble with cold throw so I may give it another shot. Also, I have always had trouble picking up apple scents so I'm probably not the best person to review it LOL

I haven't gotten these in wax yet but OOB scents I like...

Cinnamon Stick - I smell cinnamon sticks other people smell red hots

I have the the ones listed above tho i have not gotten them in wax yet.  Bought them a few weeks back when 2-3 of them were 99 cents.

Fallen Leaves OOB smells really good to me.

Cinnamon stick does smell like cinnamon sticks to me as well.

I also bought red hot cinnamon from them and oob it smells like red hots to me.  Both cinnamon fragrances smell different.

Hot Apple Pie OOB i can smell apple in it.

I need to start pouring these soon to see how they will work out.

I am on the hunt for a good apple pie fragrance as well as a cinnamon fragrance.

  5. I have one hanging in my familys van as we speak.  Been hanging there a little over a week now still has good scent in it.  I am also using the plasticpellets4fun beads.  I did the impatient mans freshener,  I soaked the beads and after 24 hours i baked them.  We will see how it compares to one i set the beads sit for a few days after soaking up the oil when i go to make a new one after this one looses it fragrance.

A fall soap that flies off the shelves for me is Spicy Apples and Peaches.  I know it sounds weird, but it smells divine, and my customers agree.  By far, it's my most popular fall soap.  It's a blend of apple, peach, and cinnamon.

Or how about an Autumn Leaves soap?  You could have a ton of fun playing with warm colors on that one -- russet, gold, orange, etc.

Apple peach and cinnamon i would def buy that if it was local.

I was also thinking something to do with leaves would be good for a fall item.

  7. I am testing beads from Plastic Pellets 4 fun in ornaments.  I just stuck one I made in the car to test how long it lasts.  Hoping it lasts for atleast a month but only time will tell.  Sadly it seems to be hard to find beads that will last any length of time now.

Out of curiosity do you know if the beads ar jsut stuck together but can be popped apart or did they actually melt together?  If they actually melted I wonder if the car was to hot and it actually sapped the scent out of it due to all the heat.

Thanks and I get that but would not trust the reputation to be kept up if I didn't invest the time to train someone.  Not everyone takes candle making seriously and I wouldn't want to carry a dangerous candle in my stores.  You did your due diligence and took the time to learn but not everyone would do that.  I mostly sell melts so maybe I just train for those, it's way easier to test!

If you mainly do melts i don't think it would be to time consuming to train someone to do them.  Tho you have to consider will that person only make melts or would they then try to make candles and sell those under the same name.

One of my accounts I am making the clam shell melts for them and to just put the clam shells on a shelf unit is really going to be a mess real quickly so I ordered this for 11.99 and thought I would set the clam shells into each section by fragrance name.  It would look neat and orderly and organized I think.  I was thinking I would make up a label and put on the drawer front of each fragrance.  Now the depth of this drawer is 4" deep so you wouldn't really see the clam shells as they would be hidden in the sections so I thought I would cut a block of wood 1 or 2" in thickness and drop into the bottom of each section so when the clam shells are set upright in each section they would stick out of each section.  I hope this works....I can't think of another better idea.  I ordered just one for me to see how it works.   Geesh, I could make these instead of paying 12.99 and 9.00 shipping...And too, I would have to order 2 units to sit side by side to go the length of the shelf they will sit on, so maybe I better make them and I'll just keep this for me.

    Trappeur

The only reason I could see making them yourself would be to make them shorter so you could better see the melts.  I have been to places that use something similar to those were they stand the melts on end and put them in and then lay one across the top to allow for people to easily see the fragrance.  Did it stop me from pulling them out of the holder to see them.  nope cause i was popping them open to check how they smelled anyways since they had not sealed the clamshells at all.

For those with less than stellar ht, is it pretty humid where you are? Humidity messes with my ht quite a bit.

lol I live in MO the humidity is terrible here during the summer.  During an average summer the humidity is probably 70+% most of the time.  It is a lucky day when it is below 50%.

How's the testing coming along?  I've been trying to transition over to palm wax for my containers, and I've been testing wicks like crazy.  I haven't worked up to an apothecary jar yet.  I'm fooling around with status jars and tumblers.  I'm finding a lot of my scents seem to need an in-between size.  Frustrating as heck.

So far my best wick for this jar currently is a dual CD-7  but I am only on burn 2 with said candle so i still need to test this one more.  If the wick continues to perform like it has this will be a good wick fingers crossed.

@katmeltswax @ncraiders The jelly donut was OK-ish in my palm wax after a short cure, and I thought it would come along with a nice HT after a longer cure, but it's been about 2 weeks now and it hasn't improved enough.  Probably be fine in melts, which is what I'll do with the rest of my bottle.  I bought it because I wanted to do a layered "coffee & donuts" candle in palm wax, but my coffee FO is significantly stronger.

I do use a few FO's from WSP that are great, but I obviously made some bad choices this time.  It's been one big round of testing bummers lately.

Sadly i have not been able to test in a candle as I am still wick testing for my 4" apothecary jars.  I have more than enough stilt to test in a candle when i get a wick narrowed down.  Hopefully it will perform as well for mr in the candle as it has in the melts.

Jelly Donut, Green Apple, Honey Apple - all have little to no throw

Jelly Donut performed really well in my palm wax melts, out of the 12+ scents i have done tests with so far only that one and a fairy garden/honeysuckle blend (best scent throw of all tested scents) i did have really good hot throw.

  14. Ok first you need to stand on one foot and hop around while stirring the wax.  Pour it in a half gallon mason jar add you dye and fragrance then put the lid on the jar.  Shake for 2 minutes remove the lid and pour the wax into your jars.  That is how to make your hot throw even better.

This totally dumb idea I just came up with seams just a plausible as alot of other stupid ideas i have seen with candle making on youtube.  Sad thing is if someone showed this on a youtube video there would be people believing it.

  15. I personally dont make pillars or use paraffin wax atm.  But a very helpful piece of information that will help people to give suggestions on what might be causing this issue and how to potentially fix it would be if you could mention the type of paraffin wax you are using like IGI 4625 or IGI 1274 for example as well as what additives you are using.  Seeing as there are a ton of paraffin wax that can be used for pillars it is hard to know what the problem might be without knowing the exact wax being used.

I've had to explain that "Lick Me All Over" is because it smells like a lollipop. I hate stupid names on fragrances! Monkey Farts? That's another one I don't like. Creative is one thing, but..stupid is just well....STUPID!

I bought monkey farts just because of the name saw the name laughed and added it to the cart.

  17. I have heard of people keeping a pot of wax on an electric griddle to keep it warm but never putting a heat gun below it while stirring.  I looked at videos on youtube for a little while when i first started messing with candles before last Christmas but quickly saw that to many people were doing things completely different so i started looking for better info and found this forum.  Have not watched another candle video on youtube since.
