I started candle making with the sole intent of making it a business. I don't regret it, even though I underestimated the capital I'd need.
Candle business is EXPENSIVE. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise

sure sounds like that to me!
or maybe they manufactured the oils and candle in Vietnam, and shipped the final product to USA.
When I lived in the Philippines, I live close to a processing zone where they manufacture American brand products like Victoria's secret. They made it there, stamped the logo, and shipped it to the US.
I'm aware that companies produce things overseas then ship them here to America. What I think is odd is making fragrance here...allegedly... then shipping to another country. I think they just wanted to add a "made in USA" feel...I have my doubts.

What is the actual language they use? Often times companies say things like "Designed in the USA by Artists." or something.
It says:
"Hand poured in Vietnam. Fragrance made in the USA"

A popular candle company claims that their fragrances are made in USA and candles hand-poured in Vietnam. You mean to tell me they ship fragrance all the way to Vietnam then ship back the finished product to America?

I was going to use "Satisfaction Guaranteed Or Your Money Back", but Sears had already grabbed that one. But here's mine:
"Return Policy: You get to make the choice! We will gladly replace the item you purchased or refund the purchase price at no additional cost to you. We reserve the right to make replacements with merchandise of equal value if the product you purchased is no longer available."
I can live with that. I think it's more than fair and it's printed on all my receipts. I don't want any fights. I want return customers. Can it be abused by a customer? Certainly! But I'll be able to spot those people with a trend of abuse and deal with them in a polite but businesslike discussion. Then, if they can't handle my feelings that I will no longer be able to accommodate them, they can choose to shop elsewhere. If I can document their trend with a paper trail, I should rarely have any problem. As long as I'm consistent with everyone! I won't lose that customer. I will have only lost a bad debt.
On the other hand, I'm not going to post big signs everywhere touting the policy like Sears did. I worked for Sears for 12 years (yes, another one of my many jobs ) and I saw absolutely ridiculous things happen when it came to returns. Things like people bringing back dirty underwear. That's not a joke. By the way, Sears no longer has that policy posted over the door of every store. I was there the day the sign company scraped it off the doors at the store where I worked.
Thanks for your reply Quentin! Can you help with this scenario please? :) Let's say I have a satisfaction guaranteed policy and the customer wants to make an exchange. The customer ships the candle back to me. I know the customer would have to pay for shipping to ship it back to me. But should I require that THEY pay the shipping for me to send a new candle back to THEM? Or do I pay the shipping?
I hope I'm being clear.

Whoever said candle making was cheap lied...lol...Well it is, but starting a business ain't. I initially budgeted for $500, what was I thinking.
I'm currently at the $1300 mark and I have yet to launch and sell a candle 😮 I still havemore stuff to buy. Yikes.
What were your startup costs? Including testing, samples etc
In full disclosure, this isn't my first business venture...I'm a serial entrepreneur; so I have a healthy appetite for risk and reward😏
The super positive side is that I've gotten good feedback from friends and family. Just letting word of mouth spread; building up my base and generating interest. Launch day is 30 days away...

I am buying fragrances that I intend to use in my product line...should I be concerned about the impact that the FO shortage is having on Rustic fragrances?
Would it be wise from a business standpoint...thinking outloud

So after testing various FOs (from different suppliers) and wicks with Problend 600 I continue to get a fuel smell. I've discontinued use. Maybe my nose is just too sensitive.

I get mine from Flaming. I've never gone anywhere else so can't compare. They work well. Personally never had one slip...yet.

Goodmorning everyone, would love your expertise. I'm trying to find the proper wick for Problend 600. I will be using a 9oz ....3.6 inches tall, 2.5 inches wide jar. I've tried eco - all sizes, but it either mushrooms or smokes. Any suggestions?
problend is 52% soy and 48% paraffin
