It helps weed out retailers I would not want to do business with. Wholesale is a partnership, not a discount market. I'm not out to "wholesale" 2 or 3 items so they can give out cheap gifts. The MOQ, order volume and required dollar volume per rolling 12 months on my WS agreement sets the tone.

If I approach the market asking them to wholesale for me, I give full size product for them to test so they know what I'm offering.

If they ask me, they are usually already familiar with my products and don't need samples.

I always send out samples of new things with wholesale orders so they know what is coming up.

Thank you Tall! I really appreciate your reply! can you please explain this part " required dollar volume per rolling 12 months " what is purpose of that? TIA

One strategy is to charge for the samples, then offer all or part of that $ amount as a credit on the next wholesale order. Keep the WS order minimums high enough to cover the costs of samples, etc.

Do you think retailers will be okay with that...or would it turn them off? I guess the way to find out is to try lol

  3. A retail store is interested in carrying your candles. Do you ship/send the samples (tealights) for free or do you charge? So far I have been sending them for free. But some stores never end up ordering. I think I should charge and if the store orders wholesale, deduct that amount from wholesale. You think stores will go for that?

  4. I don't like the false hopes he sells to newbies..."You can make 1000 bucks a month selling candles down at the market every weekend".....yeah sure after you spend $5000+ testing, retesting, retesting again, insurance, booth fees, booth equipment, supplies, candle making equipment, paying someone to help you sell down at the market...etc, etc...

Plus I don't know how the guy makes a decent profit selling candles at 10 bucks with 11% fragrance oil

I think his real business is selling a dream on Youtube...

I am right there with all of you. I love my logo but really need a good tag line. I am also redoing my web site from the ground up and the colors I am choosing are a struggle. I have seen such clever tag lies out there and think why didn't I think of that. One I have found to be very clever recently is a guy from the Cape and it is "biggest wick on the Cape" I am taking any and all suggestions on a tag line.

I think an effective tag line should contain SEO keywords

So the tag long would be a combination of keywords specific to your brand (ex: location, specialty, qualities, style, demographics)

This all goes back to branding. On a piece of paper write down words that you think describe your brand

    Some keyword ideas....

Descriptive features: Luxury, handcrafted, handmade, elegant, country, minimalist, apothecary style,

location: your state, city, southern, east coast, west cost, midwest

Materials: hemp wick, soy, cotton wicks, coconut, apricot wax,

Strong selling points: long lasting, 100% ______, strong scents, "triple scented" (whatever that means lol), paraffin-free, eco-friendly, custom fragrances, phthalates-free

I totally agree! It's an amazing scent. If you make soap put a little patchouli EO with it and its dreamy.

I thought I got a CD 14 to work in it but on the 3rd burn it still drowned. Very disappointing! I've been trying to mix it with other FOs and it still drowns. And it doesn't smell the same.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who has issues with this scent.

A soap would be nice! My bf would especially love that b/c he loves this scent. I use it currently in fragrance warmer. It's been years since I made melt and pour but I think i'll make  a soap for his birthday gift! Thanks for the idea!
