Lavender 40/42 for sure. It is standardized and should smell the same from any supplier. Holds up well in CP.
Thank you Tall! I'll try it!

For what application?
in soap and candles I tend to use lavender 40/42 essential oil. It is the more herbaceous side of lavender vs the flowery/powdery most FO tend to be.

Something that isn't The Flaming Candle's Lavender...better than that please.

Ditto. And I love how they package things. Never any spills with them

Please don't forget you need money for marketing
Don't pour your whole budget into different size jars and wicks and this and that. Start as small as you can inventory wise and invest in marketing.
-
Pour without wicks then use stick to poke hole through candle, place in correct wick and use heat gun or embossing gun to close hole.
-
Due to the pandemic the cost of everything is going up...at this point your customers won't be surprised if you increase your prices.
Cost of my jars have increased too, not just the wax...so there's no way I can eat the cost...I increased my prices by 2- 3 bucks.

WSP was slow as snail before COVID ever existed. The way they run their business doesn't align with how I run mine.

I've noticed an increase in celebrities and social media influencers releasing candles and candle lines.

Need subscription to read full article but here's a snippet below:
Yankee Candle executives’ new side gigs include tasks such as packing the company’s products into gift baskets.
Wendy Marcus was midway through a recent meeting with senior leaders at Newell Brands Inc. when word came that she needed to leave immediately.
The Newell-owned factory that makes Yankee Candles was once again short on workers, and the plant needed Ms. Marcus, an R&D manager, on the assembly line to help pack the famously scented knickknacks into gift baskets.
“I told them, ‘I have to work the overtime shift,’ and they just said, ‘OK, thank you and go ahead,’” recalled Ms. Marcus.
American manufacturers have gotten better at safeguarding their factory floors and containing infections of Covid-19 in their workforces. Despite the progress, they are still struggling to find enough people to staff their plants. The worker shortages are choking supply chains and delaying delivery of everything from car parts to candles just as demand is picking up.
Among Covid-19’s weird effects: Despite high unemployment levels, many employers are having trouble hiring enough workers. The unemployment rate held steady in December at 6.7%. Weekly initial claims for jobless benefits from state programs, a marker of layoffs, have also been steady at around 790,000. That’s down sharply from a peak of nearly 7 million in March, but still around four times the pre-pandemic average.

There's making money but they aren't making profit.

Oh no I hope the quality and service of RE doesn't change. I stopped shopping with WSP. There lead times are too long. Prices too high. Shipment packaging is way too elaborate and still doesn't prevent leaks. And the handling charge is ridiculous and outdated.,

I'm sure there are a lot of reasons why candle making recipes have typically always called for melting the wax first and then upon cool-down, adding scent. It's kind of like dessert recipes that always tell you to add the flavoring last, there are reasons for these things.
I hear you. My techniques are commensurate to the type of business I'm running. The candles I sell are highly customizable and therefore made to order..one by one. I have NO competition on the market right now because making the candles i make is hard (but high profit and personally the process is very satisfying). It's a multi step process to make these candles. All the other steps besides the actual candlemaking take up a lot of time. So therefore I prefer not to spend more time waiting for wax to melt. I don't have time to stand and stir in fragrance when the wax reaches the "right" temperature. I pop it all into the candlemaker (I have 10 of them) and let the magic happen. I can do other things while the wax and fragrance are melting and mixing. My pattern of repeat customers and no complaints on candle performance (as well as my own tests) tell me that my method of adding fragrance to unmelted wax works.
Candlemaking the old-fashioned way is not efficient for my business. The best advice I ever got regarding business is "run it the way that works for you".

I love those free USPS cube boxes (posted above)....there are the only usps boxes I use. The other free boxes are a waste of money (you'll waste money on shipping)
It's best to go to ULine and get custom size boxes to take advantage of cubic mail rates

In my candlemaker I put unmelted wax and fragrance in then heat it and melt it all and pour. Candles come out normal.

I thought I was a cotton wicks kinda girl but I love my zinc wicks! I use the "low smoke" wicks from Candlemakers Store. I can test/power burn and never have to trim because the mushrooms will fall off...unlike cotton wicks the zinc wicks don't curl so the wick can get long but even then I don't trim and it'll burn fine.

Those of you selling on Etsy or elsewhere, how are you doing? Maybe this is a wake up call for those who have been considering an online store? I think once the virus is under control the market place will be booming! That’s my prediction.
Wholesale orders have come to a halt. I feel bad for the brick and mortars. My website is doing okay because I'm having crazy sales and investing in advertising. My niece is out of school; I've hired her to ramp up my social media. Instagram stories is key right now (we do behind the scenes, polls and questions, show ourselves packing orders with gloves on)

Those of you who make soap, have you considered selling liquid/hand soap online? That is sold out in all the stores I've been to.

I purchased a sample kit from them what a waste of time and money; none would stay lit. You all warned me but I had to see for myself...lol
There's a reason they don't allow/have reviews on their website...

How do you think the virus will effect the candle and b&b industries?
Are you concerned at all?
I was in the final stages of launching a new candle line but the packaging company I was working with in China keeps pushing the ship date back for my samples..so yeah, change of plans there

Barcodes and wholesale
in Business Side of Things
Posted
For wholesale (selling your products to store owners)....do stores prefer you to have a barcodes like smaller stores, not Target, Walmart.
Also are the barcodes you can get from second hand places lie barcodesmania.com good enough or is only GS1 acceptable?
Anyone here use barcodes, where do you get yours? TIA!
