  1. How is it that there was no vet in the area Trappeur? That Just makes a sad story even sadder. I remember my dad having to take his  gun out to shoot a cow that was dying and I thought he was so cruel....I later realized he was the bravest man I knew and did something he found so difficult to do for the sake of the cow.

I'm originally a city girl but when my girls where smaller we adopted 2  horses ....that's what happens when you leap before you look!

They where great pets...Brandy was  a 32 year old quarter horse and lived for another 10 years with us and Fant was a 22 year old Arabian with asthma ...They where affectionately known as the asthmatic and the cripple...or the lawn ornaments.  I think we all learned a lot from those two horses and loved them to no end....Sadly they are gone now as are all our dogs. Sometimes I miss them dearly but the heartache of a sick animal is unbearable. I'm sorry you had to go through that but I think  being a herd animal Timmy  must have appreciated you being there till the end.....

  2. Your an Angel ...a real Angel... taking care of all those cats........your pictures of Timmy and Bonnie made me cry...good thing I'm alone ...that would be a hard one to explain LOL

And all that aside I LOVE your candles. Thanks for sharing....now wheres the kleenex?   Please go see your Dr. and take care of yourself... so we can go for a steak dinner one day:D

  3. Welcome back Flicker...good luck on your fresh start!

I have been doing things differently  ...I make what I like ...as many as I like.. and take them to the market and a few stores ...when they are sold out that's it...no commitments to repeat fragrances...my policy is "if you like it buy it".. it seems my customers don't expect anything different. It has taken the stress out of something that brings me joy...I would be happy if I could sit my studio and just make candles........although it took me a few years to figure that out .

I use a wax melter. I started out using the double boiler method and very quickly bought my wax melter cause I couldn't stand the double boiler method!

I pour my wax into my pour pot to color and dye. I would never do it in my melter. I probably could but I want to keep it clean and just for melting wax only.

hey Candybee can you please tell me about your melter? I think it's time I invest in a wax melter  but I'm pretty ignorant about professional melters...I  would be happy with a small one  since up until  now  I've been using presto pots .:)

I've been looking at it for years and can't justify the expense. To make it work for me I have to order in increments of 500 - 1000 + to make it work. It still doesn't because that would be for one scent so it would have to be a generic label.

The other thing is you can order at specific times of the year when the company has a big sale. I believe Trappeur orders from Zazzle when they have their annual 50% off sale. Or maybe I am thinking of someone else.

Anyway, some of the custom label companies like Zazzle, Vista Print, and Printmything have pretty good sales to stock up. But that still doesn't work for me.

I just don't do the volume to make it worth my while.

I agree candybee  I don't make the volume but I do make the variety...how do you order labels for each scent when you may only make 8 candles in any particular scent...looking at getting clear tape for my label maker (to identify fragrance) and getting a generic labels for my candles. I'm comfortable with Vista Print since I've used them for other things...just not sure if they are the best choice cost wise .  I'm checking out Talltayl's list and Jcandleattic's suggestion...really nice to get everyone's opinions/

  6. It seems my labels will cost more than the wax or fragrance....does this seem right. to you guys?? Used to print them on my computer but it seems so   unprofessional if a random drop of water should hit them and melt  entire thing...my fault I know....So I looked at Zazzle and to see if this was the route to go...Now I'm having a hard time wrapping my head around the price of custom stickers!..6.25-6:65 for FOUR stickers...from Zazzle...What do you do...? Do you guys print your own  or do you have them printed for you?

  7. You have a real talent Trappeur, I love them all...but if I had to choose it would be #3 then #4. I really like the big sunflowers right in the center of #3....can't wait to hear which one your using. On a side not I've been thinking about you and the cold weather....Hope your staying warm!

  8. I agree with Gail perhaps a spark will ignite the flame again...or mmmmmmmaybe its time to stop...I  mean we all switch our interest once in a while and if your not doing this to make a living perhaps you can cut your expenses and use up what you have  and find a fun use for your 1 oz  samples...maybe combine a few for a new candle fragrance or tarts or lotion etc.  It sounds like you feel guilt that your husband put so much effort into helping you with your candle business perhaps when you stop putting pressure on yourself you might actually find enjoyment in your hobby again. ....Just saying. ...I know there's lot of ways to take the wind out of my sails ...and stress is definitely one  of them.

    That's just my humble opinion

Where do you live?    Victoria on Vancouver island...Canada
Are you married? Any kids? Married 32 years to high school crush...3 beautiful daughters
How did you get started making candles/soap/whatever?Messed around with candles as a young teen 1975...remember those Scandinavian candles that looked like eggs...I hollowed out eggs and filled them with wicks and wax...made sand candles and ice candles I (guess parenting was different then since my parents let me mess around with hot wax on the stove)...,....then nothing for 40 years... nothing waxy anyways
How long have you been making candles/soap/whatever? Fell back into candle making a few years ago sell at some farmers/Christmas markets now and then and wholesale to a store...thats all...dream of making upscale  la - de - da  candles...and if collecting fragrances could be my hobby ....well...

  10. That was what I was thinking Nancy-Jo. I have used a bonded carrier many times ....but since the wax weighs so much it costs an additional $100 for them to bring across the boarder...then provincial taxes on top...Still considering it though. I live on an island and that makes it a bit of a hassle to get to the boarder although I can do it! You know where THERES A WOMAN & A WILL..THERES A WAY !!...I did contact  CanWax in eastern Canada but all the reviews I read didn't leave me feeling super confident....Plan B...I contacted Wicks&wax in Vancouver and asked if they could get the wax for me...it's not something they usually carry although they have other items from same supplier...that would be great if it worked out.......then its just the cost of the ferries to go there and pick up ($100 each way)...hoping they can ship for less.

But when all is said and done I think Candle Science is a trusted company...with great review...I could order a few fragrances to go along with my wax shippment...and just not worry about the added cost,...The best part is.. I'm not in a rush for a change!
