1. It has to be a "guy" thing. I can relate.
2. I get this wax from At Wix End. It is supposedly a soy/palm blend. It makes a beautiful pillar. Have a look: I fragranced this one with Indonesian Teak. Awesome Fragrance!
3. I had a REAL BAD problem with it recently too. I ended up buying some new wax (same kind, just new) and the problem was solved. I was seriously ready to bash my head against the wall... Here's an example. Pillar on left was beautiful. Released from mold fine. Pillar on right was a PITA. I tried three more pillars before giving up. Wax is EcoSoya PB.
4. Thanks for all these tips. I'll give them a try next time I make some of this. Tony
5. I haven't tried making one yet without the beeswax, but I will next time. This bar has zero lather, but it smells awesome!
6. The Candlemaker's Store carries it too. www.thecandlemakersstore.com Tony
7. I too am having issues with 444 and extreme frosting. I am wondering if my problem isn't the age of the wax batch and/or the environment I'm pouring in. My initial tests with 444 were good. Minimal if any frosting. Within the last month, I'm having problems with this batch of wax. Terrible frosting with no other changes in process or ingredients. Can a batch of wax go bad suddenly? Note: This batch does say to use by July of 2007. Jason (if you read this), would you be willing to send me a couple pound sample to test alongside this case of 444? Tony
8. So, this probably isn't a recipe to cut my teeth on, eh? I've yet to try a CP soap, but I have most of the supplies I need to get started, minus a mold and some safety equip (important). Tony
9. Yeah, the recipe seemed a tad odd, but my wife said it worked well. I could see how the cornmeal could damage delicates. I have some lard. I suppose I'll give that a try. Tony
10. We bought a stain stick from a fellow farmer's market vendor. It work incredibly well, according to my wife. I'd like to try making some. Here are the ingredients, in order: Vegetable shortening water coconut oil olive oil lye cornmeal I'm looking for some ballpark proportions to start with. Any ideas? I am aware that I don't want to superfat....much.. Thanks! Tony
11. Cool. I've got a dado that I've yet to use. Time to break that sucka out and make some chips! Tony
12. Did you use HDPE to make it? Did you use a router to cut the slots? I've got me a sheet of material to start with. I really need to get a mold made now that I've got some oils to play with. Tony
13. Yeah, but don't try clipping them to your ears. That hurts
14. A co-op is typically a person coordinating a bulk purchase and sharing the savings. The coordinator will collect money, make the purchase and then ship the product out to the co-op participants. If you are wanting to try small quantities of a product that you'd typically not be able to get in small quantities, then it may be cheaper. I can also be a good deal if you want quite a bit of product, but not enough to get a typical price break. co-oping with others can help put you past the good price break quantities. Tony
15. I remember asking that same question not long ago. One of the largest manufacturer in the US of M&P soaps. http://www.sficcorp.com/ Peaks sells their soap at good prices. An SFIC co-op just ended. They seem to pop up every 3 to 6 months or so. Tony
16. Cool. Another office supply I can steal from work!
17. I've soaped with both and they're very similar. Not sure which I like better. I've been washing with Drakkar recently.
18. Ok, now I have too many choices Thanks for the great response. I will be starting with The Candlemaker's Store first, mainly because I get many of my supplies there and a few FOs. If I (or my customer) don't like theirs, I'll probably try the "Sensual Secrets". Thanks all! Tony
19. I see quite a bit of recommendation for Sandalwood Vanilla in B&B. I'm looking to do it in Soy containers. Any recommendations on good throwers? Thanks, Tony
20. I don't have a bunch of experience with B&B yet, but I like Indonesian Teak from... uh... I forget. I've also been using Midsummer's Night from The Candlemakers Store and Drakkar from At Wix End. These all in MP soaps. I just got a bunch of FO from NG to try out. Dr. Feelgood, Sexy as Sin, Lick Me All Over, etc. Dang, I feel naughty just talking about it Tony
21. My all time favorite FO is Peony White Tea. It is impossible (by me) to describe. Worth a test for sure. I just happened to be one of the initial testers of the FO, otherwise I'd probably never buy it based on the name or description. Tony
22. Sexy! And, I like the black lids. I think they're much more classy than gold.
