  1. The way I do it...I melt a bunch of wax in my Presto pot and dip out what I need. Typically, I am pouring 2 candles at a time, so I use a empty pyrex that I preheated in the microwave to keep it from cooling the wax. I have heated my metal pour pot (4 lbs) in boiling water (keeping the inside free of water) when I need to pour more. This typically keeps my wax hot enough to work with for whatever I am pouring...up to 8 candles at a time, if I use the metal pour pot. Does this help? Prestos are SO worth the $20 at Walmart! Thanks, Heather
  2. I'm just starting out, but all I sell is 8 oz tins or 9 oz hex. My customer base likes to buy more candles than to buy bigger candles. They'd rather buy cheaper (smaller size) more often. Does that make sense? I'd consider doing larger, but would have to be a special item. I don't do craft shows. ~Heather~
  3. I've noticed some really pretty bigger votive holders in the craft section at our Walmart. Libby, I think. Nice thick glass. I actually used one to pour a container candle because I liked the shape. It was big enough that I double wicked it with htp 83's. ~Heather~
  4. I thought it would work ok, but I wasn't sure about additives since I use a container blend. Felt great, though!
  5. I had a little white wax left in the melt pot, and I accidently touched my fingertips to it before cleaning it out. It was warm, but not hot...so I gave myself a little spa treatment! Hope it doesn't dry my hands out. It felt really good rubbing the warm paraffin all over them. Side-benefit?
  6. Does anyone use this jar? I usually use 9 oz oval hex and htp-83 in most FOs. Does anyone have any other suggestions? If not, I guess I'll wick test the 83 first. Are balmorals hard to wick?
  7. I posted this in the classifieds hoping to buy a sample from someone. So far nobody...But I thought I'd ask on here if anyone knows a good tiramisu FO?
  8. I use 9 oz oval hex and they work great for me. I tried tureens, but I had trouble wicking them to get a full melt pool. I am also using some 8 oz square tins that are really cute, and with tins, you don't have wet spots! I want to try the metro/status jars to look a little less "country". I'm still pretty new to this, but the way I understand it a jar with a consistent diameter (same width all the way down) is a lot easier to wick than ones that are smaller/larger in diameter in places. Having said all that...I order my jars from Lonestar (they are closest to me, and I get all my wax there), the tins from specialty bottle.com. There is another site that people mentioned on here for containers...but I can't think of it right now. HTH ~Heather~ Plus, I DO use a lid. It keeps the dust and stuff out, and the fragrance in until the candle has an owner!
  9. I got an order from Lonestar today, and I bought a small 10# slab of Harmony blend (IGI 4630). Well, this wax is the ONLY one I've been using EVER...and I just don't think this slab is the right wax. It's WAY too white and WAY too hard. What should I do? I cut it...that's when I noticed how hard it was, but I didn't melt it. Should I call them or try it in a container or what???
  10. So how much does a web page and design cost??
  11. In 4630, I use 8 drops of navy and 8 drops of red per pound and get that color pretty consistently.
  12. Does anyone else have trouble with glue dots turning loose? I order from Lonestar, and I've been pleased with the quality until the glue dots. They turn loose when I pour my wax. I have ordered some Wick Stickums from BCN. Anybody have any glue dot tricks until the stickum's get here? TIA Heather
  13. Perkydesigns.com did some really cute labels for me, and I thought they were reasonable. ~ Heather ~
  14. Ok, I'm a newbie, but I've got the basic technique down for my containers, I think. My question is...I want to do several samples of FO, and I don't want to melt it one pound at the time. My pour pot holds 4 plus pounds. One pound of wax (weighed prior to melting) will fill two of my containers with just a little bit left over if I need to repour. I am right in thinking that I can pour out 20 liquid ounces into a pyrex and treat it like it is one pound pre-melted weight? I melt my wax in a double boiler fashion using my pour pot. This will work great as most of my sample FOs are one ounce. Will the wax stay hot enough in the pyrex if I originally heat it to 180 before transferring to the pyrex to add color and FO before I pour? I use IGI 4630 and it suggests to pour at 160-180. Sure does seem like it would be easier than melting a pound at the time. I have my eye on an ebay Presto with spout but my hubby wants me to wait as this is a new hobby for me, and I've already spent like $500 on containers, wax, scent, and equipment. OH, and don't forget SHIPPING. No distributors in Mississippi that I know of. So, what does everyone think??? TIA for the help!
