  1. Another vote for Greenleaf's Gardenia Petals, LOVE IT:smiley2:
  2. Just started using Greenleaf 70/30 myself and LOVE IT!! Am using ECO-4 and HTP93 (in lighter FO's) Both work great in the 8 oz. JJ
  3. For some reason couldn't find the thread anymore to post back. Neither one of the first 2 wicks worked, they were both to small for the waxes I am trying. Changed the CB3 to an RRD50 and the 449 to an LX22. They are both on the 2nd 3 hour burn and look pretty good. Very slight hang up with the LX22 but may be because my wick is not perfectly center (gotta get a wick setter!) Neck opening got pretty hot at first (I guess because it narrows in) but is OK now that the wax level has dropped down some. Hope this helps, sorry so late getting back to you. Everyone really likes the jars.
  4. I wish I knew what the secret is also, I think maybe just beginners luck. I heat the wax to 185, add 1 dye chip stir well, cool to 175, then add FO and stir for 2 minutes, let cool to 165 then pour slowly into room temperature jars. I am adding 1 oz. Peaks FO:smiley2: (only ones I have used so far and really like them) to 1 lb. of wax. My tops are perfect until I burn them:sad2: I have some Premiere wicks coming so I am going to try them to see if it helps with the top issues I am having after burning. My melt pool is not very deep only about 1/8 in. even after 4 hours so I may need to go a little hotter to see if this makes a difference.
  5. For the ones testing the 449 wax, are your tops setting back up funny after burning? Mine are really smooth and glossy when I pour them (at 165) but when I burn them (to a full melt pool about 3 hrs in 8 oz, square mason jar with HTP 126 wick) they seem to look crystallized and flaky, also looks like a frost line from where the melt pool was. Is this normal? I'm new to candle making so may be doing something wrong. I am letting them cure for 48 hrs. before burning. Am getting good hot and cold throw using Peaks Carrot Cake.
  6. I have 2 of these I just made this morning and they are really cute, about 2 1/2 by 2 1/2". Used a HTP 83 (GB 449 wax) in one and HTP 105 in the other (CB3 wax), One with Peaks Carrot Cake and one with Vanilla Hazelnut. Just testing so may have to change them. I'll let you know if either one works. I'm new to this so keep that in mind and I am also testing both of these waxes. Like the way the 449 set up much better, it is very smooth, pored at 165. Will see how they look in the morning.
  7. I was having a hard time finding soy candles close to home (live in a small town) so I was having to order online. Decided to try just making my own to get the colors and scents that I wanted. Now I'm hooked!
  8. Thank you so much. I will give this mixture a try. Plan on ordering the KY and the CB-3 today to test along with the 449 that will be here Mon. Think I will stick to these 3 for now so I don't get too overwhelmed. Just want to be able to compare them at the same time. Thanks Everyone for the "Welcome" post!!
  9. May have to try the 125 next, seen several positive post on this wax. Do you add anything to it? I have a lot to learn and just trying to pick one is not going to be easy, trying to stay with ones others have had success with and do a lot of testing! And I thought horses were expensive!:smiley2: Glad to see other horse lovers on this board also. My guy is back sound now, just needs more rest time before going back out on trails so I get to do a lot of testing and reading:cheesy2:
  10. Hi everyone, Just wanted to say thanks for all the info. about candle making. I am new to this and have only made a few with the kits from Northstar which turned out pretty good. I just ordered some of the 449 from Peaks and some of their FO's to try, seems to be a good company from what I have read here. Will be here Mon. . May try the Calsoy CB-3 also. How many waxes do most of you test when first starting out? Also may try KY 125 and the JS soy. My horse is on 6 weeks R and R:embarasse from a leg injury so mom has some extra time on her hands for trying new waxes. And all of you are great and this is my first post so hope it turns out OK.
