  1. Well, I never made it to the classifieds...you guys are quick! The molds are spoken for.
  2. I think both were being talked about. For the record, I do poke relief holes in soy pillars...just not in my containers. Sorry for the confusion.
  3. ohhh, I luv my Upland. I bought my first one here in the classifieds. Then I purchased the Upland slab mold. I have a couple of those Target molds but hate lining them. I could make two extra batches of soap in the time it takes me to line a mold. I just ordered the Bramble Berry birch wood slab mold. It was supposed to arrive yesterday but that darn FedEx guy didn't make it. BTW, I have three of those Target molds and would be happy to give them to someone for the cost of shipping. Just shoot me a PM. I think I'll put them up in the classfied section too.
  4. You took the words right out of my mouth. I will NEVER order from them again. I have only done business with them on one occasion and was in such a hurry I did not notice the shipping charge. I don't mind a handling fee, but WSP is just over the top!
  5. One of my favorite suppliers Bramble Berry carries both.
  6. Natrasorb is a modified wheat starch used in high-load oil products whereby one wants to control the greasiness and/or a matte finish is desired (makeup, oil-control powders, etc.). Natrasorb Bath is a modified tapioca starch. It is hydrophilic which means that once it is in contact with water it dissolves, releasing/dispersing the oils. It is commonly used in bath powders, bombs, talc. Edited to add: Natrasorb Bath and the tapioca starch you can purchase in the store are also two different things. As a comparison: NB is like refined table salt and tapioca starch is like rock salt. They feel different and there is definitely a difference in how they perform in your B&B products.
  7. This is true! lol I should add that the co-op is for Natrasorb Bath.
  8. Michi, I am in a Natrasorb co-op right now that is still taking orders through 12/11. The price is $5.50 per pound with a $1.00 hostess fee. If you are interested just PM me.
  9. I wouldn't do it either. Brandyanne, wax coating does not stop things from burning. Just take a close look at your wicks and you'll see what I mean.
  10. For that matter, why not use a warmer instead of sticking a wick in the salve/butter?
  11. OMG!! ROFL!!! That sock looks armed and dangerous! Waxidermy...:laugh2:
  12. That's just crazy. I'm sorry. No explanation other than wacked.
  13. Hey mbroom, sometimes when something is touted as "single pour" it really isn't...and actually the more I think about it, what might be single pour for you might not work out that way for me. That is part of the fun (right?, hahaha). Heat guns are a chandlers best friend. They are like high powered hair dryers. You can find them in most hardware stores or general stores like Walmart. They are typically used to peel/melt old paint off of walls. It sounds like you may need to slow the cooling process. Maybe lower your pouring temperature a bit (not much). Perhaps you can scrounge up a shoe box or something similar in size? I would not go so far as an insulated cooler...too much heat retention. You want these guys to cool down but in a slow and controlled manner. And YES, you are very lucky to live in Loveland...specifically Colorado. I fell in love with the state way back when I made my first visit around the age of 5 and have been trying to get back there ever since. I visit at least twice a year and wish it were more often. I'm in the process of scouting property there and have a "move to Colorado goal" for the year 2010. Such a magical place.
  14. It is a single pour wax...with the occasional help of a heat gun when pouring in less than optimal conditions.
  15. EcoSoya VB is a bugger to work with, being rather extremely temperature sensitive in the pouring/cooling process, but once you tame the beast it is a lovely wax. If you don't mind I have a few questions to ask that will help me to figure out what is going on with your votives. It appears from your pictures that your mold(s) are sitting on a cooling rack atop a tile counter top? What do you think is the ambient temperature in your work area? How many votives did you pour and what was the spacing between molds? High or low humidity? I noticed your location is listed as Loveland (you lucky dog) which would lead me to assume it is rather cold and dry. But in order to really drill down as to what is going on I want to be sure.
  16. I use such a wide variety of waxes that my temp does vary from batch to batch. I think that each temperature dial has it's own "personality". My advice would be to start low, say a bit below 150 and wait for your wax to melt. Check the temp and bump up if you need to.
  17. There is no such thing as crystal soy wax that is 100% soy. Feathering/crystal wax is a palm product. I do know that for some reason there seems to be an increase in the number of people trying to perpetrate this fraud. I suppose it is due to an increase in soy wax popularity. Misleading information as well as down right lying makes me :mad:grrrrrr. If you really want to go crazy (at least it makes me crazy) do a Google on "soy carcinogens". :rolleyes2 Some people will say anything in order to sell their products.
  18. I use a Pyrex digital thermometer. They are everywhere (Walmart, Bed Bath & Beyond, etc.) Go to Froogle.com and search on "Pyrex Digital Thermometer". The great thing is they are cheap! I measure out my unmelted wax in a big Pyrex (I should buy stock in Pyrex) measuring cup. Put the Pyrex on the scale, tare it, then add unmelted wax until I reach my desired amount. Take your measured wax and dump it in the Presto. Take care when melting small amounts in your Presto. It will melt very quickly!
  19. Not silly at all Connie. You most definitely need to check the temp with a thermometer. If you have the clip-on type you can clip it to the side of your pot. Do NOT trust the temperature dial. HTH and welcome to the board:)! OOps, edited to add that I use a digital thermometer with no problems at all.
  20. I'll have to try that. I have three ongoing tests right now and another big one right around the corner. Maybe I can get to it this weekend. Thanks!
  21. :waiting:I'm waaaiting....where are the dipped socks! I need an example to follow. Oh, and how much do you charge? Sell them by the pair or by one lonely sock? Think anyone would notice holes in the toes? Anyone know of a good gym locker FO? Eureka! I have a grand idea!!!! How about dipped stockings for your valentines themed contest!
  22. As in all things candle, everyone's mileage is different. I find the throw to be great! It's by far greater than EZSoy. I get ya on the beeswax vs stearic. I'm going to have to give stearic a whirl. What's your usage rate, if you don't mind sharing?
