1. Thanks all for the kind replies! Jeana, that recipe did not use olive oil and very little palm oil, which helped the soap stay white. It's actually a stepping stone mold I found online. It was so pretty, I had to try it for soap!
2. Sweetcakes has one. From their website: "We searched for a chamomile fragrance for over two years, and this is the only one that we feel could stand in for chamomile essential oil."
3. This particular recipe makes about 15 4-oz bars. I cut the bars wide to keep a lot of design on them. I admit, it was difficult to cut up the first block, but the individual bars still look very unique! Thanks!!
4. www.from-nature-with-love.com The micas are listed under Skin Care Ingredients - Color Additives. Be sure to reference their mica chart to see which ones will work in your application.
5. I am really liking my new molds. This one is sensitive skin soap with colloidal oatmeal powder, unscented. It has a fresh, natural fragrance all it's own. I cut the block into different size bars and charge per ounce. Here are the cut pics as I promised:
6. I hit the bottom of the jar with the heat gun to loosen up the goo.
7. Sweetcakes has Rosemary Mint and Sapmoss FO's. www.sweetcakes.com
8. Thanks Jason, have a good one. It was nice talking with you today.
9. A hurricane is basically a fancy candle holder. You place a votive, within a votive holder, inside the hurricane. Or, you can place a tealight (leaving the tealight inside its plastic or metal cup) inside. Then, once the votive or tealight is used up, you can replace it with a fresh one.
10. I've tried that wick and don't get a complete melt pool. Next I will try the HTP 126's, they are supposed to burn hotter.
11. I have found that if I heat to 180, add FO at 175 and pour slowly immediately after stirring in the FO, I get neither air pockets nor sink holes. But I usually get a small circular crack around the inside of the container, so you still need a heat gun or second pour. IMO, this wax is worth testing because it has a very good cold and hot throw, the best out of the 5 soy waxes I've tried. BTW, I wrap a kitchen towel around my containers to help insulate them as they cool, which really helps with the sink holes. I do not preheat my jars.
12. It became self-aware around 3:15 this afternoon and told me its name is Frank.
13. I'll just leave well enough alone then. Better to be safe than sued!!!
14. Ladies and gentlemen, may I present the world's largest mushroom!! Thank you, hold the applause. Knowing the temperamental nature of Frankincense & Myrrh, I wicked a 16oz apoth jar with ECO-14, with Cargill C-3 and F&M FO (Sweetcakes) at 6%. Admittedly, I marathon burned it (as I do all my candles), but what a shocker!
15. I have a Frankincense & Myrrh FO from Sweetcakes with a very low flashpoint. As others have discovered, for some reason F&M candles must be wicked up every time.
16. Yeah, I'm a little leery myself. The herbs did not catch fire in the candle I bought, but they weren't piled up around the wick like in the example photo. That to me looks too risky. santa eek
17. One time I bought a candle that had rosemary leaves and other herbs on top of the candle (see example below). I am tempted to try this with my soy container candles. Has anyone else tried this? Any bad experiences with the herbs catching fire or otherwise affecting the burn?
18. I found wax dipped baby socks... http://www.sherryssoycandles.shoppingcartsplus.com/catalog/item/386384/328765.htm#image_1
19. I was looking for a chart of this type. Thanks Top!!!
20. Now THAT would make more sense. I'm just very irate that her website leads you to believe you are purchasing a candle made with 100% soy wax.
21. M, those look awesome!! Jason gave me a sample of the 423 but I don't have tart molds yet. Can't wait to try it now!! santa chee
22. This company claims that their crystal candles are not only soy, but 100% soy!! I know this has been discussed before, but how would I address a customer who might ask why my soy candles aren't the pretty crystal kind?? santa mad Is there ANY technique which would create this kind of effect in soy? http://www.kaylomacandles.com/
23. I agree, if you want to use hot/warm oil as therapy, just buy some regular massage oil and heat it in a simmer pot. I'd think this would be much, much easier and cost effective.
24. LOL...the very first candle I ever made looked better than THAT!! :rolleyes2 I can't believe anyone would make ANY money trying to sell that mess! Love the elf butt...santalol
