  1. Take a picture of it, cut. Let us decide! I bet it's just fine!
  2. I made a batch of chamomile soap. I'm really pleased with it. I just cut it tonight into bars. It is topped with dried chamomile buds, and there is chamomile throughout it, as well as lightly scented with Chamomile FO, as I didn't have EO.
  3. Brenda Try something for Valentine's Day perhaps with the layered effect. Cinnamon FO. (smells like cinnamon hearts) red/white/red OR red/white/pink maybe with the white layer with little flecks of something pink or red? Just a thought............
  4. I'm really proud of myself. I did some searching around.......and found a few useful bits of information.............on making some home made baby products, since I was asking earlier also about some recipes, I got serious and wanted to find some for myself......... HOME MADE DIAPER RASH CREAM Most diaper rash creams on the market today are formulated on the basis of bee's wax, and many do-it-yourself recipes contain the same ingredient. Vegan parents may use jojoba oil instead. This oil is perfect for baby skin due to its great nutritional properties. Its structure is very close to human sebum so it is easily absorbed. Jojoba oil allows the skin to breathe, unlike other oils. It nourishes the skin and moisturizes it at the same time. To further enhance these beneficial properties add 5 drops of tea tree or lavender essential oil (both act as anti-bacterial agents) for every 2 ounces of oil. Wheatgerm oil with its naturally high Vitamin E content complements this jojoba oil mixture. Adding a few drops will also help preserve this product. Pure Vitamin E Oil is a good alternative if you cannot find wheatgerm oil. HOME MADE BABY WIPES To make your own wipes, mix one fourth cup of almond or olive oil with two cups of distilled water and one fourth cup of baby shampoo (choose a natural brand). To this, add 8 drops of lavender essential oil and 5 drops of tea tree oil (optional). Now, prepare a roll of paper towels to become baby wipes. First, cut it in half. You now have two short rolls. Remove the cardboard center. Place a short roll in an airtight, waterproof container (you can use an old baby wipe box or a tupperware container) and pour the solution over the towels. Put the lid back on the box and turn it upside down so the solution is absorbed. Alternatively, if you use cloth or flannel wipes, keep the solution in a jar or spray bottle and apply as needed. HOME MADE BABY OIL You can make your own natural baby oil using pure almond oil, which is hypoallergenic and has a slightly warming effect on the body, aiding relaxation. If your baby is allergic to seed and nut oils, you can use olive oil as a base instead. For babies older than 6 months, you may wish to experiment by adding a few drops of essential oil to the base oil. Excellent choices for babies include lavender (to achieve a relaxing, sedative effect), geranium (to ease nervous tension and to counteract negative moods), myrrh (to ease coughs, colds, and bronchitis - also beneficial for digestive problems such as colic in infants), and ylang ylang (use sparingly for a highly relaxing and uplifting effect).
  5. I read that Shutters EO's are from Wellington. I am looking for EO's too for good prices.
  6. I mine as well have asked the same question. I have a cousin who is expecting and already made a calendula soap with baby powder fragrance. I wanted to make some other things. I have posted about making soap with hemp oil, and was thinking that the diaper rash ointment would be good to use hemp oil in. I wonder if I could substitute the avocado oil with hemp oil, and use olive oil as the calendula infused oil. Hemp oil is so wonderful for skin. How much Vitamin E is supposed to be used in this recipe would anyone say? Diaper Rash Ointment that was posted 2 oz calendula infused oil 1 oz beeswax 1 oz shea butter 1 oz avocado oil Vit E
  7. Thankyou for the recipe. I'd say from all of us! That was very kind of you to give such details instructions! Move over husbands, we've got work to do!:highfive:
  8. Thanks for the information on how to make that soap. It'd love to make it but I only have small wood loaf type molds. It only holds 32 oz batches. What do you suggest I make it in? What is the middle layer of soap made with? This soap is just gorgeous!!!
  9. I have heard all this talk of a salt bar........ it sounds really drying to me....coconut oil and table salt.......... Do you still add a lye/water mixture??? I'm not quite understanding it. What is the recipe for it, and what are the benefits of a salt bar?
  10. This is CP soap? I'm so confused........How do you layer them so perfectly? I didn't quite understand.... They are the nicest looking soaps I've seen on here! I would loooooooooooooove to make a soap like this!
  11. I made a batch of soap with Apple FO. I have a feeling I put too much in. I think it was only an ounce for a 32 oz batch. When I cut it, I noticed these spots that look like FO. What did I do wrong, not stir it in enough when I added it? Is it really FO?
  12. Thanks so much everyone! You are so sweet! I really like the watermelon too............It smells so good! The green and the red from the watermelon is a powdered colorant......I try not to use fake colorants too often, but it was kind of necessary to get the right idea....I added a small amount of blue in the patchouli as well. Funny thing, the monkey farts was made with lard to make the yellow colour, and I added paprika (if I can remember right) for the top.
  13. YA I've heard not to use more than 20 or 30 percent..........Does your soap still go green though? I like the look of that.........so it's obvious with no colorants or dyes, what soap it is.......... Thanks for the response
  14. Sorry about the picture guys......I know what I did wrong....... but at least you see it!
  15. My new friend Purple Lilac has helped me figure out how to upload pictures onto here! I've been so jelous of all who could do it before. I soooo wanted to post my soap pictures! Here are some soaps I have made (which I gave out at Christmas, as well as sold some) Left to right: Patchouli, Monkey Farts (which I renamed), Calendula with Sweet Orange Essential Oil, and watermelon.
  16. It's nice to have hemp in a soap, but I really want to make soap with Hemp as the main oil. Kind of like castile but with hemp oil....Is that possible? I was thinking a soap with 50% Hemp Oil, 40% Olive Oil, and 10% Castor.....but I don't know if that's even possible. :embarasse I usually make a castile soap of 90% olive oil, and 10% castor, so I don't know why it wouldn't work with hemp oil too..........?????
  17. :smiley2: The chamomile tea is a great idea, using the chamomile FO, as well as infusing some chamomile buds in with the oils, then topping the loaf with them!
  18. I want to make an unfragranced hemp oil soap. My main oils I use are coconut, palm, olive, soybean, castor, canola, grapeseed, sweet almond oil...........all other oils are hard to come by for me unless I can get it at the grocery store. Does anyone have a recipe for HEMP OIL SOAP? THANK YOU!
  19. I have some dried Chamomile I would like to put on top of a batch of CP soap, but I would like to scent it as well. I have chamomile Fragrance Oil, but not enough to scent the whole batch. I have other Fragrance oils, but don't know what would be right with the dried Chamomile. Fruity scents? Flowery scents? Any suggestions? :smiley2:
  20. Yes, we want to know........Is it a stamp? And when do you stamp it? Could you still do that if you make your CP soap in wood molds and then cut it into bars? Where do you get such things? Thanks!!!!!!!!
  21. So you'd think! I actually thought that too when I decided to start making soap..........oil? On your face? But I understand now that it turns into something else when saponified............ And then with lye.........it seemed so strange, but yes........All understood!
  22. THANKS TO EVERYONE WHO REPLIED.......... It was a good understanding of what I needed to know!
  23. I've been making soap for a while now, and I know how making soap was discovered..............(below) but do not understand why we add LYE to soap in these day and ages. How do I explain this to soap buyers that lye in soap is caustic but it needs to cure and then the soap is very gentle. How do I explain that cold process soap is very natural when a man made chemical like LYE is added? Around 1000 BC women noticed the clay from hills was often embedded with sacrificial-animal tallow and ashes from the temple altars, assisted in cleaning their wash. The discovered the chemical process, now termed as saponification.
  24. If you want to do something that promotes your product but also feels good just to give.........instead of stopping someone who is having a bad day, and going out looking for people who are having a bad day(that sounds just silly)........:undecided .......... Put a product in your mailbox for the mailman, give a product to the coffee shop drive through person who always gets your coffee right, give a product to someone who deserves it, who makes a difference in YOUR day, and give it as a thankyou, that way you are getting your word out, and thanking them at the same time............and they'll realize you are doing it for the right reasons and probably want to buy from you in the future
  25. My aunt wants me to make soap specifically for her type of skin. This is what she asked me............ What type of soap, if any, do you think would be good to use on my face. I have oily to normal skin and break out EASY. But I know the "professionals" say everyone should protect their skin with some kind of moisturizer. Everytime I do put a moisturizer on my face I break out. I have white kaolin clay I heard would be good to use. I'm thinking that superfatting my soap is not going to be a good idea with this kind of soap.....Should I just make castile soap with kaolin clay in it? Any ideas or suggestions are appreciated..........
