  1. Hi all,

    http://www.vistawholesale.com/assets/images/cw239.jpg

    Description on this electric melter:

On/off switch build into power cord. Warmer has a light on the front to let you know at a glance when the warmer is on. Candle warmer measures 3 1/2" high and 5" in diameter.

I am trying to figure out how this type of warmer works.  Is there a plate under the ceramic dish that gets hot?      I am comparing it with other warmers and from what I can tell if there’s a bulb in the warmer it lists this info in the description along with the wattage.  I don’t want any more  warmers with bulbs, unable to find the replacement bulbs on the warmers I have easily.   Just looking to test my melts!!

    Thanks!

  2. Both jars are advertised as 3" but one supplier says 3" outside.  When I measured the inside with a ruler the Libby came in at 2-7/8" and the Anchor 2-15/16" so the Anchor is 1/8" bigger.

It only took me 3X to get this, LOL, and I had to have my DH double-check me!!

These days my glasses need glasses !!

  3. I recently purchased Anchor brand 12 oz status jars.  Previously I was using Libbey's brand but switched distributors due to cost of jars and shipping.   I see that the Anchor jar is about 1/8" of smaller in diameter than the Libbey jar. Does anyone think this 1/8" will make a difference in the way I currently wick?  I plan on testing but would appreciate your opinions.  Thanks...

  4. I use 464 and I temper this wax. People tell me all the time that I should not need to do it, but if I could avoid the step I swear I would.

So I pour my candles, leaving a little bit of wax in the pouring pitcher - enough to add 1/4 inch to the top of the candles. Let the candles cool, heat up the remaining wax - slowly! - and then allow that wax to cool just to a very creamy stage. Seriously, it looks like dyed cream. Then I top off my candles with the tempered wax and get a beautiful finish.

You can do that to the entire pitcher of wax, but why?

OG, That does sound like a good technique.  I made many all 464 candles and really did not have too many issues with frosting, I guess I was doing something right there or was just lucky, but I do remember I would sometimes see pits around the wick as burning down.  And I do remember running out of patience to get the throw right, LOL.  One day I will get back to it, love the creamy colors of soy wax.

  5. Candeebee it was on your recommendation that I purchased the Christmas Tree scent last year (I believe it was on a thread talking about pine scents).  It is a great scent and the hot throw is very good.  I have been eyeballing the Cedar Garland and their Patchouli--your opinions have sealed my deal !!  On another note I like the customer service at Fillmore's.  The have always answered my questions promptly and thoroughly.

  6. Thank you all for your compliments and support.  I have been a member of the board for about a year and a half now, post once in a while and do a lot of lurking and researching.  I have learned a lot from all you seasoned chandlers and want to sincerely thank you for your contributions which have helped me more than you know.  I could not have made these candles without the knowledge gained on this board.   I am proud to be part of this community and hope to pass my knowledge on to newbies in the future.  Have a great day all !!  :)

  7. I gotta say I was a little nervous about making these (silly, I know)  but finally took the plunge and made my first rustics... Yay! :bliss:

Green candle scented with Fillmore's Christmas Tree in round 3 X 4-1/2

Berry candle scented with RE's Plumberry Spice in octagon spiral mold 2-3/4 x 4-1/2

Made with IGI 4625 wax, they smell delicious cold--used both of these scents previously in container candles with 4627 with very good hot throw so hoping for the same here.........

    Thanks for looking!

Thank to all for your suggestions.

After looking around I found some items in the Dollar Store mentioned  above which helped me create this lottery "basket".  Fuggedaboutit ,  (NY expression, chuckling ),  but I think the basket worked better for me than the tree (and cheaper too).... There are $70 worth of tickets,  no ribbon needed, lights were enough.  The sign is the slogan for the NY Lottery.  Funny but my printer was running out of colored ink so the sign is not uniform in color but I think it looks cool.....

  9. My Dear Crafters-

I really don't explore this part of our Community as I do candles but I have been volunteered into making an item for a Chinese Auction for my son's football fundraiser along with two other mothers that I don't know.

The item we need to donate as a trio has been assigned:  A LOTTERY TICKET TREE

We will donate $60.00 worth of tickets amongst us for the tree the easy part-- but then there's the tree part, LOL!!

I am thinking about buying some tree branches, somewhere cheap maybe Dollar Tree, along with some battery-operated butterfly lights that I saw in the Dollar Tree store last week.  They are blue and will call attention to our item.  Then I want to use some gardening twist tie wire to secure the lights to the branches, stick them in green styrofoam, school color ribbons and finally attach the lottery tickets to the tree somehow.  Sounds easy right??

Has anyone ever made one of these and can you offer any suggestions?

    Thanks,

    Terry

  10. So I know a scent is kind of a personal thing--what I like is not what you like..

I would like to give my candles as gifts to people like teachers, etc. without specifically asking them what their favorite type of scent is.,,

So what is a scent type that is pleasing to most people?  Would love to hear everyones opinions please..

  11. My DH and I lovingly call one of our sons "Poker Face Joe",  Straight-faced, alert, calm and cool on the exterior in stressful stiuations....maybe a coffee or burboun scent?  Maybe Peak's Mid-summer night, which smells masculine and confient IMO.

  12. I made/tested one  1-1/2 oz. melt made out of CS Honeysuckle/Jasmine, 8%. Tested in an electric warmer.  It has an awesome throw!! So lovely and so summery...but nowhere near 168 hours!  Still, nontheless, at at least 25 hours and still going...love it!!

  13. Has anyone ever packaged tarts of different scents together?   Would the tarts absorb the scents from each other over a long period of time?  For example, I am thinking about putting 2-3 holiday scents into a jar and then decorating the jar for Christmas time.  Would this be a good idea or am I thinking crazy, LOL?  Thanks!

  14. I was doing a search on this topic several weeks ago since I am new to pillars as well and wanted to know if pillar candles could be made using wicks with tabs or not.  This is one of the threads I found, as Georgia said it is a heated debate on whether to use wick tabs or not.  I learned a lot from from reading this thread:

Pillar makers - wick your mold or use wickpins?
