I've only shipped a flat-rate priority envelope, which I think it was about $9. I just had to fill out a little customs form at the post office, stating what was inside and the value. I would go to the USPS website and input your specifications of the package and see how much it would be.

Those of you that offer flat-rate shipping on your website, how many orders would you say you receive that will NOT fit in a flat-rate box? In that case, what do you do - just pay the extra cost of shipping and have it come out of your own pocket? Since my website isn't fully completed, and I haven't had any orders come through from there, I don't know what to expect about the size of orders.
Thanks!!

Very cool!

If it were me, I would also just go around and try to find a wholesale account or consignment. You could tell your customers where they can buy your products, and if the store doesn't have the particular scent they always order from you, maybe they could put in a special order and you send it with your order? It just seems like a lot less hassle than working out the details of having an employee type.

There is also a startup fee, correct?

Pam, I just went to your site, and looked at the votives you are trying to add. The problem I'm seeing is that when you click on "3-pack votives~$3.00" instead of it being a link to another page (which it looks like), you made that your shopping cart button. If you are trying to have your drop down menus below that, you should make the headings only be text, not links to the shopping cart. Add in the code, like Tara has provided, underneath your headings. That should give you the heading, then the drop down, customers can select the scent and submit, and it should add it to your cart which will look something like, "3-pack votives, Strawberry."
In the tutorial, it may show as lines 7-9, but you just keep adding them as you have more. As you can see, Tara offers many scents, she just kept continuing on and changing the scents.
I hope that made sense and it helps. Good luck!

1. The form method should be where your shopping cart is set up at, for instance, mine is 9.
2. Enter your userid given to you by mals.
3. Units would be your price.
4. Product would be, well product
<form method="post" action="http://ww9.aitsafe.com/cf/add.cfm">
<input type="hidden" name="userid" value="A123456">
<input type="hidden" name="units" value="3">
<input type="hidden" name="product[]" value="3-pack Votives">
Robin has a great tutorial that should help mals tutorial (I hope it's okay that I posted this).

If you are looking for any kind of crystal clear labels, they are going to be expensive.

I was using a glue gun for my personal testers, just because after they are burned they were easier to pull out than the stickums were. But just recently, as it was burning at the bottom of the jar, the glue came apart and the wick starting floating. Pretty scary. So I'm just gonna use stickums for everything. They seem pretty darn strong.

Does anybody package their 6 pack of votives in anything other than the clear boxes that Sunshine sells? I think they look great, but IMO, it's expensive for packaging that I would need to incorporate into my prices. I just received some boxes I ordered elsewhere, and found out they are way too big (would fit like 12 votives, not 6). Any suggestions?
Thanks!

I have one too, but it's not quite finished....so posting it so you can see the products would probably be useless.

Here are some great tutorials to help a little:
Do you know which type of wax or jar you will be using? Are you trying to do candles that are the least hassle? Maybe basic, not rustic, mottled, etc.?

Awesome!! Congratulations!

That's really neat!! Very creative.

Light green sounds good. Mine have been like a forest green, lol.
-
Fruit Slices - orange
Jamaica Me Crazy - haven't made one, but I think I'd make it yellow....a green/yellow layer would look cool
White Tea Ginger - don't have this, but the color that comes to mind would be a light tan....maize?

I bought mine off ebay also. It was called: 8" Impulse Die Cast Heat Bag Sealer, from the seller harveststore.

A woman who owns a consignment shop wants to see my candles. I know I bring samples of my products, but would I bring an agreement with me (still need to make one up), or if she's interested, meet with her at a later time for this? Anything else I would be needing?
Thanks!

Cool - thanks for all the suggestions!!

I use mini ziploc bags that are 3x4 or 4x4. I buy them in bulk for about $6-$10 for 1000 they end up being about $.o1 each
For that price, they sound like they are polyethylene. Are they?

Oooo...good luck! I hope it works out!

I don't use clothes, but if I did, I wouldn't dip them. I don't dip the bow - it just kinda has a stiff look to it, and I would want the clothing to look comfortable & flowing. Here's the caution I put:
* The fragrance will decrease over time if the animal is kept at room temperature. To refresh the scent, heat with a blow dryer for about a minute. Do NOT keep the blow dryer in the same spot as the bear can catch on fire from the heat. This will need to be done every few weeks or so, or as desired.
* Never put wax-dipped animals directly on wood. A dish, glass or metal, will protect the wood surface from stain by the oils in the wax.
* Keep out of the reach of children, as these animals are no longer toys.
* Wax dipped animals do NOT need wicks because they are NOT meant to burn. They are only to be used as decorative air fresheners.
* The bears will naturally lose scent over time. Since they sit at room temperature, naturally they cannot “throw” scent as well as a candle or potpourri burner.

Can't really help you, I don't know that jar. But I would also double wick if it's 4" diameter.
Approx. how much

I haven't really began selling, so everything is all in testing supplies right now. I've tried keeping track, I know I've missed some, but I've spent about $2300.
Now I've gotta worry about packaging n all that good stuff for the biz.
