deena
Hi everyone, just thought I would post a few comments. I have done lots of different craft things over the years, was going to get in to Scrapbooking and had bought all of the supplies to start, when I went to a candle party of a woman who makes her own. It was on the drive home my girlfriend commented to me, on how much did I think they would cost to make, that made me do some research. I found a local supplier to me and the rest is history. I have only been making candles for a few weeks and so very new, I am totally addicted. Reading the postings here, I am quite proud of my progress so far, touch wood have encountered only a few individual issues.I am making container candles with GW464, started with ACS wicks, and then tried CDN wicks. My preference is for the ACS, am really dissapointed so far with my CDN candles, sad as I have heaps of the wicks to use. I am experimenting with a lot of different styles and sizes of the glass jars and just tried some tins. My supplier is out of stock of the larger size jars I really want to use. I know that the recommendation appears to be to get one perfect and then move on, but I am afraid I am a bit impatient, or you could say I multi task.I started using dyes, but prefer the natural wax colour I think. I have tried several different FO, which in itself is a bit addictive as most that I have tried so far I like.I have in another post had recommendations for labels and as soon as I can figure out a name for my candles I will be ordering them. No not going to sell for a long time down the track, but would love to label my candles now and would love to think of a business name for the future. So difficult to think of a name, would ideally not like to use the word candle in the name as I have in the past made lots of different body products and who knows if the future holds a business for me making all of these delightful products for more then my family and friends. I would like a catchy name may be with the word wares, cottage, creek incorparated in the name.Sorry it is a bit long, but as I am sure you can identify with I feel passionate about this new love of mine, and it is wonderful to be apart of this wonderful forum of like minded individuals. Vicky_CO
Welcome to the forum.I think you have already figured out this is not a cheap hobby and it get worse. LOL Trust me it much cheaper to buy a candle than make your own but no where near as much fun.
RichardLOZ
Welcome Deena.Sounds as though you are based over in Perth if you are using 464 and ACS wicks. I have found that the CDN wicks work better for me in the 464 and the ACS wicks are better in the palm wax. Thats just a result of my testing however.David is great to deal with and also very helpful. Now that we have relocated back to NSW, I miss the ability to just go for a 20 minute drive up to Malaga to collect my order.Let me know if you need and suggestion for scents from ACS as they do have some great ones. deena
Thank you Richard. Amazing what a few days does, few more days testing and yes I think you are right think my preference is changing to the CDN wicks. Yes I am in Perth on this freezing morning today. It is great, I too am only 20 minutes away from Malaga and flying off this morning again for more supplies........I am always open to your experience and knowledge and with so many options for scents from ACS yes suggestions are welcome.I love thier Frankincense & Myrrh, Sex on the Beach, Rose Petals. Undecided on the Cocoa Therapy. Wild Berry have not quite got the throw right on that. Last night made Fresh Linen so have not burned that yet. I do have several more scents that I have not made up yet but not sure that I like those scents yet in the bottle. My scent is personal and I may not like it but someone will.I know they have great descriptions on thier scents but do you have a great suggestion for a spicy type scent? jonsie
Deena, it is so much fun, isn't it? And I know what you mean, I want to make candles with the scents I like, so they may not please everyone, but so what As for your question about spicy FOs, are you looking for floral, or bakery, or musky? deena
Gees I had not actually thought of spicy scents being in all three categories you have mentioned. Initially my thoughts are for a spicy floral but any excuse to rationalalise more purchases is not really needed. I had not really thought of bakery type scents before and I do love a musky scent as well, so would love your suggestions in all three categories thank you.The house is beggining to be over run with candles. I can't wait for my days off from work to decide what candle scent it will be this week that gets made.
jonsie
I'm happy to sniff thru my collection of ACS samples for you, but unfortunately I have my first big, bad cold of the season! Darn Perth weather! I asked about the bakery spice because ACS has a fabulous Gingerbread scent. It is extremely powerful so you don't have to use as much, and it smells EXACTLY like fresh baked gingerbread. My Aussie friends aren't too keen on it but my American friends love it, lol.
Tribalvixen
Hiya I havnt tried alot of ACS scents but I love Autumn Harvest, Angelic Whispers, 7 layer carrot cake yum...the DB is nice but you can really smell the dirt(patch) in it. One that I cant stand is Persian Spice bleh bleh bleh yuck!!!!Welcome to the addiction/forum I envy you being able to go and smell the scents in Perth and pick up orders.Tammy
deena
I hope you get over your cold soon Jonsie. Gingerbread, not sure it is a smell I would like.I have Autumn Harvest but have not made it yet, maybe I will in awhile.Have just made some French Lavender.Tammy it is great to just have ACS just around the corner kind of, but bad too, put my order, wait 24 hours, 20 minute drive and I have just spent more money and made yet more candles, it is very addictive. I am not doing much housework on my days off, not that it is my favourite past time anyway, lol.
