Candle moulds from wood....can it be done?

Recommended Posts

OK, I have been on a never ending search for taper moulds.

tried tin--I use only beeswax and in the mould the wax remains:embarasse

Have plastic--has made some great candles, but is starting to warp.

So, dh is suggesting making a two parter from wood. Can this be done?

I don't think wood would work on its own. Wood is a porous material and I think it would absorb some wax and oil. That would make it very difficult if even possible at all to remove the wax from the mold. If you could get the wax out, I would think it would ruin the finish. Maybe coating the wood with silicone woud work.

I am thinking of candlewic...they are so pricey...with shipping to Canada, etc.:cry2:
It's true, but they are probably the most effective molds, and durable. The production rate is pretty high so maybe you don't need that many. If you try, you can probably get 3 tapers out of each mold in a day.
