Cedar Leaf
Just wondering if anyone knows whether epson salt will work in cp salt soap bars? I know that sea salt and table salt are good choices -- I try to stay away from iodized salt. I also know that Dead Sea Salts do Not work. I have some Hawaiian salts that a friend wanted me to use for a salt bar but it also has epsom salt in it -- I keep dragging my heels -- Is there anyone who knows if epsom salts cause any problem...Thanks!Linda
Meridith
You can't use Epsom salt so you might want to forgo the Hawaiian salts. Unless you are adventerous and want to see how the soap turns out.
TheQueen
Use just plain ol' table salt. Epsom salt is NOT actually salt--it's magnesium sulfate--so I don't believe I'd use it in soap. Now, mind you, it makes a wonderful bath salt ingredient.
beloved
what happens if you use dead sea salt?????
Meridith
When I used DSS the soap had a kind of rubbery texture (that's the only way I can describe it but it wasn't bendable) and absolutely NO lather. Billie
I too just use sea salt easily found at Wal----
john3183
Epsom salts are magnesium sulfate, and not Sodium Chloride. With such different properties from salt, I would not think they would work well in a salt bar. I also don't like sea salt, as it draws in moisture, and I don't like weeping bars. jbren
Non-iodized table salt is fine. I also use Morton's Kosher Salt sometimes which is a little bit larger than table salt.
SassySuds
Epsom salts will cause oozy, weepy soap. Don't ask me how I know. DSS are so loaded with minerals that they do just about the same thing as Epsom salts.I like medium sea salt, but I like rough and tough salt soaps. MikeInPdx
I find the kosher salt over at Big Lots! and Dollar Tree.....I usually stock up and add those. Works fine.
