Using Tussah Silk in Masterbatch ???

Recommended Posts

I know the silk will dissolve in hot lye solution...

I was curious, since I usually masterbatch a 50/50 lye solution ( I soap RT)

will the silk dissolve at RT or do I need to add it when I make my masterbatch? If so, I wasn't sure how much silk to add, or if the silk would keep any beneficial properties long term in the lye solution....

Curious as to what others do?

Thanks for the help!

Dana

Can you please tell me what the benefit is to adding Tussah Silk to the soap? I received some in my goodie bag at the TN Social on Saturday, and I plan to use it, but wondered what the benefit is. Thanks

I use about 0.1 gram of silk (give or take) per pound of oils.

you can masterbatch your lye solution with the silk, but be sure to mix well before pouring off your batch portions.

Yep what she said.....I masterbatch at 50/50 and add the silk to the 50/50 while HOT. But definately mix well before pouring any off as it does settle on the bottom.
