SatinDucky
Does soaping at room temp prevent gelling? This batch has been in the warm oven (just the light on for warmth) wrapped in towels, sitting on a warm heating pad for almost 3 hrs and still no gel :undecided
diamondk
I soap at RT all the time now and I get gel but I leave it covered in towels and blankets for 24 hours. HTH
SatinDucky
Whew! Ok, so it's not messed up? LOL It's still wrapped in the oven. Should I turn the heating pad off and just leave it there until tomorrow morning? I feel kinda lost in limbo here :embarasse
diamondk
I would think you could turn the heating pad off but I never used a heating pad before so I really don't know. I just leave everything wrapped in towel and blankets on the top of my dryer. lol Sorry I can't be of anymore help.

Scented
I do the same. I've noticed it tends to start heating up closer to the 10-12 hour mark, but all that peeking just gets me a badge of ash.

I've never had ash before but I suspect that's what I saw the last time I peeked. Just the barest amount, but it looks kinda like the pictures I've seen here. *hunts down a padlock for the oven door*
Jcandleattic
Whew! Ok, so it's not messed up? :embarasseSatin, just a reminder that soap doesn't have to gel to become soap. It's all a matter of preference and ungelled soaps tend to take longer to harden, and cure out. The properties of the soap in the final bars (after curing) are the same whether they have gelled or not. BTW - welcome back to the addiction!
