pgray1229
Today I'm using a new wax. J223. I poured it at 145. What could I have done wrong to do that?
usairforce
You just need to do a second pour. It is called a sink hole, it happens as the wax cools, you didn't do anything wrong. Just make sure that you always leave a little colored and scented wax left over after your first pour to use for the second pour. No biggie. Lite-A-Scent
I have had the same problem, but the hole does not appear until it has been burning for a short time and is not apparent after the wax cools after pouring. It is like an air pocket under the surface. I use a dowel along side my wick as it is cooling also.
SatinDucky
Some waxes do it more than others. Many container waxes don't but virtually all pillar waxes will. It depends on how much the wax shrinks. If the wax is pliable enough, like container waxes, it will sink down. If the wax continues to shrink after the top has become too solid you get the hidden air pockets like in pillars. That's the main reason you should always poke relief holes (and keep them open) in pillars.
