Polymer Clay

I am NO expert on this topic (far from it actually), but...I have played with polymer clay before. I was feeling "creative" and bought some clay at Michael's. It was Sculpey clay. It is the kind that doesn't get hard until you put it in the oven and bake it. I have yet to bake my creations as I don't want to chance ruining them (LOL)- even tho I've been told that it's ok to bake... I just put them into my china cabinet for now...

Encourage your daughter to do this. It is a rather relaxing thing to do as well as a great feeling when you finally DO create something that you can be proud of. My hubby and kids both said they wouldn't have believed that I did them if they hadn't seen me doing it at the time. I actually made them speechless (Just for a moment tho...lol)

I will try to post a pic. (Doubt it will work, but will try. I'm not the best with photos or posting....lol)

But, definitely encourage it - and try it yourself. You'll be surprised as to what your mind and hands do when given a little time...lol

I hope this helps you. Go to sculpey.com and check out what I mean.

I'm sorry, I forgot to tell you that I used the Super Sculpey type. Not the firm one, just the normal one. It was easy to work with. Had to soften it up a bit with hands first when I took it from package, but it was rather easy to use. As I said, I'm not an expert as I've only done my two angels...lol. But, it was fun.

Hope this helps.:cheesy2:

Those angels look great, ditzy!

If I'm not wrong they can be baked in a regular oven. No need for a kiln.

I thought about making polymer clay soap dishes once upon a time... until I saw how much it would come up to. Polymer clay's not cheap! I still love the idea of making my own things though.

Thanks so much for the help, ditzy. The angels look great. I'll be heading to town either today or tomorrow so will have to swing by Michaels and see what they have. My creativity runs more to soaping and herbal concoctions but my baby is very excited about trying this after seeing Grumpy Girl's post on it. Will definitely have to show her your angels too. Thanks again!

I did a quick search here and found this link: http://www.craftserver.com/forums/showthread.php?t=56071&highlight=polymer+clay

I want get some clay to play around with too. I though I'd see if I could make a stamp or two with it. I'm going to get one of those cheap pasta machine things to soften up the clay though. My wrist is starting to bother me and I'm sure working with hard clay would really hurt it.
