soybaby
Hello everybody...I need some serious help. I've switched waxes. Now using a soy wax from Genwax. Anyway, I cannot seem to get a smooth surface on these candles. I've tried everything from allowing the wax to cool longer than usual to pouring at a somewhat higher temp.I've even regulated the room temp. Oh also tried heating the glass jars. Nothing is working. Is it the wax? I had the same problem withthe ecosoy, however it wasn't as bad. I also have to do a double pour and I'd really like to do just 1. Any suggestions would be GREATLY APPRECIATED! Breanna
Have you tried hitting the tops with a heat gun?? this sometimes will smooth out your tops. If you are using straight soy you might wanna use 3% beeswax with it,,,Im sure someone else will chime in soon,,,
Stella1952
What temperature are you melting and pouring? What FOs and dyes are you using? Do you use any additives like USA, coconut oil or beeswax? Need more specific info to help...
soybaby
Thanks, Just returned home with my heat gun!! I hope this works. Ok, I'm using NatureWax C1. I'm using about 2oz of FO per 2 lbs. I melt wax to about 150...I pour @ 100-110. Room temp jars. Am i using too much FO? I don't add any coloring. Am I suppose to mix other waxes into this stuff? No one told me that. I tried adding vybar 103 to this wax and it NEVER melted. It just turned in tiny lil liquid balls. I had to toss a WHOLE POT of wax. I think after this 50lb. is done I may go back to using the ecosoy from peak. Please let me know if I'm missing something here. Thanks for all the help! AAngels
I use c-3 and love it! Have u tried that one yet?I do use a heat gun on ocassions and it works great!
Stella1952
C1 was an early NatureWax container blend. Some folks like it more than the later formulas. It's a soy/palm wax blend. Smooth tops was one of its failing points. Try some C3 if you can...If you are using 2 oz. FO per 2 lbs of wax, that means you are using 1 oz. per pound, correct? (WEIGHED oz. not fluid ounce, right?) That is slightly more than the recommended amount without additives...Vybar is not appropriate for soy waxes. You could try using some USA or stearic acid... Beeswax might help smooth out the tops, but it may harden the wax more than you want... Also, cool them slowly with good air circulation all around and underneath the containers. Cover with a large box.I'm curious as to why you switched from Ecosoya to NatureWax C1?
soybaby
I want to know why I switched too? I was ordering Ecosoy from peak which was fine! However, I ran out and didn't have time to order more and realized that Genwax was just a short drive away! Well needless to say, this soy palm blend is just wwwaaaaayyyyy to much work and doesn't give me the great results I got from the eco. With the ecosoy, after cooling, the candles tops looked as tho' they had been blowing in the wind. Waves or soft ripples on the surface. Can't really describe it. Anyway, my sister told me about the box regulator last nite. I will definately try that one. Thanks everyone! The heat gun has been a life saver! I will switch back and then tester the other formulas that were recommended. What happens to the candle if I am using too much fo?
SoycialGirl
Don't you just love the quirky characteristics of soy? I use EcoSoya 135 and sometimes I get wonderful tops, sometime they need the heat gun. Sometimes the mottling won't show up until the second burn. Honestly, it doesn't really bother me. Sometimes when I'm in a hurry I'll pour at a higher temp, knowing that I'll get mottled tops, but ya gotta love those heat guns!!Paige
soybaby
That's exactly what happened. I think I must slow down and REALLY take my time. I just purchased the C-3. I hope this works. I have a show on Saturday! I will definately be going back to Ecosoy for my spring show. Thanks everybody!
kandlekrazy
C1 has palm wax in it and really needs to be heated to a higher temp before adding your fo, and you can pour it a little warmer than C3. I tried additives in this wax and they didn't help at all (just the opposite) so I'd leave them out. It is not a bad wax, just a harder wax that has a higher MP and needs to be treated a little different than C3.
