candleessence
Hi everyone! Im noticing that some of my candles will smoke like a chimney when I first light them, for around 1 minute or so then settle down & burn fine from then on. Why does a good wick/wax combo seem to do this? Im using a pre-blend one pour & have a no other problem w/ this wick to the jar once it goes for a few minutes. I don't think I've ever seen store bought wicks do this. Please help:D
Scented
Is the wick primed?
KristinesShower
I've used a couple of different wicks and this is what I found:paraffin coated wicks - no smoke when first litbeeswax coated wicks - lots of smoke when first litno coated wicks - little bit of smoke, but burns down fast to the wax so you can't really notice itThese are the only three I have ever used and I hope it helps you. candleessence
Yes, actually they are wicked w/ High mp wax so this would make perfect sense! Ya'll are geniuses! Thanx!
SatinDucky
If they are primed wicks (high MP paraffin), they shouldn't smoke badly when first lit. They are trimmed short before lighting?
candleessence
Yes, trimmed to the proper length. Im thinking though that maybe because Im using them w/ a preblend low mp wax in the container? They only do it on the first burn then after that, no smoke on other burns. Not a science type person, lol, maybe I should take up crocheting:grin2:
candleessence
One more thought:grin2: Would using a wick primed w/ the wax Im using instead of factory primed make a difference?
