Cane molds

Recommended Posts

I was just wondering if anyone can speak from experience about cane molds.

What I am wondering is if it is easier to use the metal molds and "cool down the outer layer", etc. or if purchasing a silicone mold will produce a good cane that can be removed easily? I really want to try these, but I think it would be easier to use the silicone molds. Can you still "embed" pictures, etc. in the silicone ones?

And, what size do most of you do your canes?

Hoping someone with experience can guide me along this.

Also, what wax is the best? I would probably order from Bitter Creek North as they are the closest to me and have the best shipping cost.

Thanks!!!

Heather

A hard wax, something around the 160 mp range. Never used a silicone mold for one, but here's my take on silicone. If you leave it alone it may work. I think a metal mold would be much easier and more functional. You need to be able to cool the outside to set your insert IMO. I'm not convinced a silicone mold is easily cooled in one spot.
