fabulousfunfur
Today I braved my first batch of soap........although.........I added the right amounts of lye and cold water, but the temperature would not go above 75 degrees.......I tried a lye/water batch 3 times with the same results.....Is there a reason for this?I used two different brands even....still the same results...... RobinInOR
Dumb question, but is your thermometer only marked in celcius? 75C is 167F, which would be about right...
KristinesShower
That's exactly what I was thinking Robin!
fabulousfunfur
Yes I was looking at celcius.....75 degrees, is what the lye water was getting to but no more.....I would hear 'degrees' and automatically think celcius. (We do that in Canada!) On the thermometer I was using the celcius is on the left....100 degrees celcius lines up to 215'ish FahrinheitSo what's the scoop then.........I need my oils to be 100 and lye/water to be 100.....FAHRINHEIT?100 is the first number on the fahrinheit side!So the lye/water temperature got to almost 175 F...then I let it cool to 100 F? :undecided Thanks so much guys...I'm going to try another recipe tomorrow....Going to post a thread about that.....tea tree oil shampoo bar..... Linnyeg
Welcome fellow Canadian!! You're gonna have to stop thinking in celcius, everything you read on the boards (and on most websites) refers to farenheit! hth
mountainmadness
I use room temp. lye. I do not even worry about its temp anymore, just mix the day before and let it sit. It works good especially for problem FO.
RobinInOR
Easy to get confused on a multi country board I try to put F after temps, but I forget. Probably assuming things are F will get you mostly right...
fabulousfunfur
Thank you all so much for your replies.....Okay get the lye water to 100 F and the oils to 100 F and combine.....AHHHHHHHHHGotchya!
