TexasBrat
Wow, those are amazing. I agree with Islandgirl, your attention to detail is great. Those look good enough to eat. Do you use any molds or are they all hand molded? I like your snowcones and sundaes the best.
BBSweets
Thanks guys!I don't use any molds or anything. Everything is smooshed into shape by me. LOLI've been working with polyclay for nearly 7 years now! I also love working with beads and making jewelry, so most of the time I just tell people that I make jewelry because that covers most of my hobbies! I've also done candy making/cake decorating, crocheting, scrapbooking. Plus I collect travel memorabilia (postcards, guidebooks, etc.) and I love Disney World! Oh how I love Disney World! I've been there 13 times, the most recent was back in January and my next trip will be in January 2008!!! I love to answer questions about Disney World and help people plan their trips - so if any of you are going soon, please feel free to ask me any questions you may have! I am more than happy to help!Hmm... Looks like I'm really typeative this morning!
TexasBrat
I just saw you are new to this board, forgot to welcome you to the board. Welcome. I have been making things in poly clay too for about 5 years now but I don't make anything as awesome as your things. I do have a question for ya, on your jelly beans and snow cones how do you get them to be translucent? Do you use use mostly transluscent clay and mix just a bit of color to it? I have to try it sometime, to cute. I tried to make lollipops but I don't think they came out very cute.

Lorrie
I have always wanted to try polymer clay!! Do you have any recommendations for someone that is looking to get into it?
BBSweets
I have always wanted to try polymer clay!! Do you have any recommendations for someone that is looking to get into it?The advice I always give to new polyclayers is to practice, practice, practice!! I learned very early on that this is a craft that requires a great deal of patience! I almost gave up in the very beginning. After you've done it for a while, you sort of get a 'feel' for it, and you know how much pressure to apply, etc. I tried to get my mom and my sister-in-law into it, but they didn't get very far. I see a lot of people try it and not like it because they aren't able to get the clay to do exactly what they want. Just go into it knowing that there is going to be a lot of trial and error involved!
judyvega
I'm not familiar w/this medium at all - does it come in different colors, or do you color it, or..? And how do you get the shiny look, as if it's been glazed?

I don't know the first thing about polymer clay and I don't even know if there is a difference in it.ThanksThis website had an amazing plethura of information. http://www.glassattic.com/ Check this place for supplies and and projects. http://www.polymerclaycentral.com/You can also buy clay at Michaels and HObby Lobby and Joannes and some at Walmart and most craft hobby stores. You can buy more in bulk online though. Check you local Michaels store as they offer classes in pc and I have taken several there. If you are looking for Kemper tools which are for making shapes, those will most likely be bought online on Ebay or Polymer Clay Central. Late Night
Thanks for the links TexasBrat! I went to the library today and got a bunch of books on polymerclay but they were all a bust. Mostly just pictures of finished products with very few instructions. Well, I did learn the clay needs to be conditioned befor using it, so I guess they weren't all a bust. TexasBrat
Thanks for the links TexasBrat! I went to the library today and got a bunch of books on polymerclay but they were all a bust. Mostly just pictures of finished products with very few instructions. Well, I did learn the clay needs to be conditioned befor using it, so I guess they weren't all a bust.LT, ya, a lot of books are just of pictures and projects that are to difficult to do. I'm glad you only checked them out and not bought them. The internet has been for me the best resource in learning about PC. I do have some great books though with easy projects that are step by step. To help condition your clay I highly recommend a pasta machine/maker. Michaels sells one now that is inexpensive. There didn't use to be a clay pasta machine before, you would have to search kitchen supply stores for the best Italian made ones. This is the one you can get at most hobby/craft stores http://www.joann.com/joann/catalog_old.jsp?CATID=83500&PRODID=124374The one I prefer and own is this one b/c it has a non-stick roller but it costs a lot more but if you wait for coupons at Micahels you can get it for 50% off which brings it down to $30 bucks.http://www.makinsclay.com/US/eng/products/claymachine.htm Conditioning clay can be a pain without these machines so if you are interested in playing with PC you might want to get one, it makes life easier. And, you can make your clay look like the ever popular Skinner blend.http://www.sculpey.com/sculpey401b.htm
