First post, have supplier question (hi!)

Recommended Posts

First, let me say that this forum is great!

Second, my name is Mike and I set up an account for my wife Mary. (hence the MandM) She got into candles several years ago right before the Soy stuff got popular and then took a several year break because of having our second child. Now, she wants to get back into it, but I now see that Soy waxes seem to be better than the stuff we have used like J-50 and J-223. In going through what we have in the basement, I did find that we have a box of the Soy flakes, most likely from Natures Garden, or Wholesale Supplies Plus as they are local here.

This leads me to the real questions...

Does anyone here use the Crafters Choice wax from WSP? It has great reviews, doesn't cost a ton and seems like a blend of regular and soy waxes. When doing all the testing on the J-50, we found it really hard to judge what wick to use, and quite often, we got a lot of black smoke. I heard the soy burns cleaner, so I'm thinking this may be the way to go.

Also, the place is on my way home from work, and stopping on the way home sure saves on shipping and gas costs. Need wicking help too, but that's another post...

Also, do you guys think that oils stored in a controlled temp of maybe 65-70 degrees would go bad in a few years. I'd really hate to have to buy new scents as we had quite a few stockpiled. They still smell great, but I don't want us to waste a bunch of $$ on checking every scent again to see if it blends.

Thanks in advance for any help.

The Crafter's Choice wax is wonderful! If I had a local supplier I might purchase it instead of other container waxes. It has an awesome scent throw :)

As for how long the oils are good? If you store them in a cool, dry, dark place, you may be able to get away with a couple of years. Sniff them, test some in some batches of wax and see what happens. I have a tendency to keep my FO's forever since I store them in cabinets in the basement. I have a couple that are 4 years old that are still good (fragrances that wouldn't sell, but I liked so I didn't want to get rid of).

If you store your oils in a cool dark area they can last for years. I've had a few that went bad on me, but just by taking a sniff will tell you if they're bad or not, out of 100's only 2 were bad.

Sorry, can't answer the other questions.
