  1. For $480, you can buy 16 presto pots from WM and add the spigots. Heck, you have that many pots and you can color the wax and add scent right in the pots, then pour directly into the containers and avoid the pouring container and scales all together.
  2. Not sure if this helps or hurts, but when we started doing candles, we tried pouring in jars and stuff for testers, but that got very expensive. We were then given a tip which I think helped a whole lot. Instead of pouring a bunch of test containers, we were told to get some cheap frying pans (as big as we could find- graage sales are really cheap) and wick up the pan with as many different wicks as we could fit in there reasonably. For example, put a CD18 in one area and maybe 2 CD14s in another etc. So, instead of having to pour multiple containers for every scent and color and then finding out a wicks keeps drowning (worthless candle) we made one pan full and went from there. When we were reasonably sure of what the wick combination was, then a test container was made. (sure saved on glass) The nice part with the pan was that you could heat it over low heat, and pour the wax out into a container. To be honest, I really don't see the point of pouring a candle with no additives because you will never sell one that way. The best way IMO is to make one with what you think is the appropriate wicking, scent, and color and adjust from there.
  3. First, let me say that this forum is great! Second, my name is Mike and I set up an account for my wife Mary. (hence the MandM) She got into candles several years ago right before the Soy stuff got popular and then took a several year break because of having our second child. Now, she wants to get back into it, but I now see that Soy waxes seem to be better than the stuff we have used like J-50 and J-223. In going through what we have in the basement, I did find that we have a box of the Soy flakes, most likely from Natures Garden, or Wholesale Supplies Plus as they are local here. This leads me to the real questions... Does anyone here use the Crafters Choice wax from WSP? It has great reviews, doesn't cost a ton and seems like a blend of regular and soy waxes. When doing all the testing on the J-50, we found it really hard to judge what wick to use, and quite often, we got a lot of black smoke. I heard the soy burns cleaner, so I'm thinking this may be the way to go. Also, the place is on my way home from work, and stopping on the way home sure saves on shipping and gas costs. Need wicking help too, but that's another post... Also, do you guys think that oils stored in a controlled temp of maybe 65-70 degrees would go bad in a few years. I'd really hate to have to buy new scents as we had quite a few stockpiled. They still smell great, but I don't want us to waste a bunch of $$ on checking every scent again to see if it blends. Thanks in advance for any help.
