tracyscandlecreation
Hello everyone! I am in the process of making my first batch of hot process soap and I'm having a big problem getting oils and lye/water mixture to trace. Any suggestions?TIATracy

tracyscandlecreation
I've been at it for about 20 minutes now and every time I stop it goes right back to a funkiness. Does the times vary with each recipe?
Meridith
If you post your recipe it might be easier to help you.
tracyscandlecreation
I used this:crisco 25%lard 25%olive oil 15%castor oil 12%soybean oil 23%I used the SoapCalc for the amounts. I just got it to thicken up drastically, but it took awhile. Now I think things are on track

CareBear
Lard moves really slow, and OO is a slow one too (unless it's pomace). Glad it came together.
Soapmaker Man
That recipe is very conditioning, but, no cleaning value and very soft according to the numbers at Soap Calc. You might want to drop a tad of the castor, more of the Crisco and soy oil, and add 20 to 25% coconut oil to it. It will be harder and a better bubbly and cleansing bar for you.:highfive: Paul.... CareBear
The numbers might show low cleaning, but I find lard does an excellent job adding cleansing to soaps. I never really understood how it could rate so low on soapcalc but act so well in reality. But maybe that's just me!
Soapmaker Man
Yer right CareBear, given a good long cure time, her recipe will get harder because of the lard and Olive Oil. Old time lard soap was 100% lard and it cleaned and got hard. Given a good long cure time this recipe as she posted will harden up.Paul....
