Beeswax Sub?

Hi everyone!

I know there are some other waxes out there that you can sub out beeswax with for those that don't want an animal product. I belive Carnuba (sp) is one? Are there any other waxes you could use in place of beeswax for lip balms or lotion bars?

Yes, carnauba is one. Candelilla is another. I haven't used carnauba, but candelilla is much harder than beeswax, so you'll want to reduce the amount used by up to 50%.

I've heard about rice bran wax, and even have a sample from an amazing CT person who shared with me (THANKS!) - but haven't worked with it...yet.

I've also heard macadamia wax- haven't tried it yet, but want to get a sample. I use Candelilla.

Carnauba wax is also really hard, so remember to reduce it also. I was using carnauba wax in my balms in place of beeswax (it cost less), but it had a kind of grainy feeling in the balms. I decided to go back to beeswax.

I like soy wax, but it takes a bit more than beeswax since it is more creamy and not as hard. I have used soy wax in my lip balms and also in my sugar scrubs. In my lip balms, I have found that I need to use around 30-35% instead of my normal 20-25% beeswax. Soy was is so nice and creamy, but I have found it to go a bit grainy over time.

there is also castor wax. have not worked with it, so can't comment on how much more/less to use instead of b/w
