Henryk
I know this is an odd request, but for those of you that have tried them, can you tell me what is the most "transparent" IGI container wax? I want to do some containers that kind of "glow".Thanks!
topofmurrayhill
IGI 4627 Comfort Blend is the most translucent. It colors deeper and looks less creamy than the others.
Henryk
I think that is the "scoop" wax right ? Maybe I'll have to give it a try after researching the board on issues. Thanks!
CandleGirl
Has anyone tried this wax in the 16 oz. Country Comfort jars sold by Bittercreek? I've had a case of the wax sitting in my house for about two years and haven't tried it. Any suggestions on where to start with wicks? BIGCAT
Has anyone tried this wax in the 16 oz. Country Comfort jars sold by Bittercreek? I've had a case of the wax sitting in my house for about two years and haven't tried it. Any suggestions on where to start with wicks? You will want to use the HTP wicks with comfort blend, and will need to double wick 16oz jars, IMO
prairieannie
I use zincs, and never double wick.
CandleGirl
Thanks so much for your help! What zinc wick do you use in this jar? If I were to try the HTP (which I'd have to order---already have zinc) which ones would you double wick with? Thanks so much again!!
prairieannie
I've never seen the "Country Comfort" jar. I looked on BC's website and couldn't find it. I think I'm blind lol. Can you provide a pic? How wide is the mouth of the jar? How wide is the jar at it's widest point?

prairieannie
Well, if it were me and I was using zincs I would start testing that with a 60z. You will notice that you need to wick up for just the wax itself, and then if you have any heavier FO you'll need to take that into consideration as well. It looks like the actual mouth of the jar is a little narrower, but you'll need the bigger wick to get a full melt pool on the rest of the jar. Yep, I'd start with a 60. CandleGirl
Thank you so much for your help with this! I am new to posting on this list and have been a little hesitant about doing it. Your quick and thoughtful response are greatly appreciated !!!
prairieannie
Don't thank me just yet!! You may find that this wick size won't work for you at all lol.. but it's a good place to start I think. I hope you don't end up having to resort to double wicking that jar, I hate double wicking lol. Good Luck to you!
BIGCAT
Now PA, Double wicking is a must on large jars to get a full melt pool and so the jar doesn't get to hot or to keep from having to trimmed the wick constantly to keep it from smoking and making to deep of a melt pool
SliverOfWax
I'm with BigCat. I wouldn't even consider single wicking a jar like that. Very nice jar, btw, especially with the rust lids. HTP wicks are recommended by pretty much every supplier for Comfort Blend.Comfort Blend is neither translucent nor transparent in any way. For wax that emits a glow, try IGI 1343. It's not commonly used for containers, but certainly can be. It is often used for the overpour with chunk candles, which allows the chunks to show through when the candle is burning. It gives a nice glow. You will have to play around with it and do at least one, probably two, overpours. You will need to keep the wick taut as the candle sets up. It can be a pain to work with when used without additives, but if you're looking for a glow, that's what you'll get with 1343.www.StuffSunshineLikes.com
Henryk
This is becoming a good thread with the wicking and all ... I guess I should have said least opaque. I've seen some containers blends and they look like soy. There is no "glow" at all in the container. When I tried 6006 which is a para/soy blend, I distinctly remember it glowed MUCH more than plain soy. That's kind of where I was going with the question. Thanks! DatCandleMaker
I always double wick anything over 3" wide. It gives a nice even burn and is definitely worth the trouble. Sliver - they are very nice jars. I love them
prairieannie
Now PA, Double wicking is a must on large jars to get a full melt pool and so the jar doesn't get to hot or to keep from having to trimmed the wick constantly to keep it from smoking and making to deep of a melt poolLOL, no Bigcat, it's not a must on ALL jars. I never double wick my 16 oz jars. But if you'll notice I did mention that I hoped she didn't have to resort to double wicking that jar.. which means that I agree it may be a possibility. But with my jars, it's not necessary, and It's not necessary with ALL big jars. As far as HTP wicks go.. tried 'em, wasn't impressed! I love my zincs! I'm definitely willing to deal with the mushrooming to get the better scent throw and overall better burning candle. It works differently for others. Different Strokes! IndyGirl
I have found that the apothecary jars need a double wick to burn properly but, the one I tried out was a bit bigger........maybe 18 oz? Anyway, I use a jelly 16 oz and it's definatley a single wick for most fo's in 4627 using zinc of course. Th only thing I'm having trouble wicking is those darn tins! I'm about to make em all wickless! Oh and to get back to the subject posted........4627 does not glow it just melts really nice!
