Kelly
I haven't really ever shipped or mailed anything that I didn't just drop in a big blue mailing box, so I have a question that hopefully someone will be able to answer. I plan to mail some items (certain things must be sent via USPS ground due to flash points) that are smaller and don't necessarily need a big box. They won't need to go priority, they need to go via ground. What is the term for mailing a padded envelope ground through the USPS? Is that what they call "First Class Mail"? Please help!
schmoopie
I believe you would want to go Parcel Post for ground.
sudsnwicks
A padded envelope weighing 13 oz or less will automatically go via First Class Mail which is airmail. If your envelope doesn't exceed 13 oz, you will need to tell them specifically to send it by surface mail. If your envelope is more than 13 oz, they will ask whether you want priority mail (airmail) or parcel post (surface mail), in which case you tell them the latter. Kelly
How does this work if you print your postage from home and have the daily carrier take the package for you? Should I write "Suface" on the package?Thank you both for you help and so quickly!
schmoopie
Well I know that when I print off the USPS site, they don't give you a parcel post option. Paypal does though..... not sure where you are getting your postage, so that would be the key..... If you are using Stamps.com or something like that, I would find the Parcel Post rate... affix that amount of postage to the package and that would be the way it goes. Might not hurt to write Parcel Post on it just to make sure. This is just a guess though, as I only ship UPS or USPS Priority on line. Anything I can't ship priority from USPS, gets taken into the actual Post Office... just to let them know what it is and cover my a$$. sudsnwicks
If you are able to go personally to the post office, that would be the best way, so that you can instruct them on the appropriate method.
