Fresh Soaps!

Thank you Brenda for the answer to my post and the pictures. Before asking you i had googled it as well and couldn't find anything. So far i've found 3 places that carry a similar gadget; Saratoga Scent(but they don't ship to Canada!), Kangoroo Blue(the blade is not adjustable) and The Soap Goat(the blade is only 3.5 inches). There used to be a place called Prairielady that had a planer but they don't carry it anymore, i think they're in Texas. I guess my quest for a planer is not over, i'll keep on looking. If you don't mind telling me i'd like to know if the blade of your planer is as thin and sharp as a razor blade and is it placed at an angle like on the drawing below. I drew a profile view of the planer's surface LOL. Thanks again.

The blade is thicker than a razor blade - maybe an eighth of an inch thick (it's sturdy.) The sharp edge of the blade is parallel to the surface of the planer. The removable wooden piece sits below the level of the surface of the fixed wooden plate, but I didn't like the depth of the bevel in the edge of the bar of the soap, so I just folded some card stock and wedged it in the groove that holds the removable portion of the planer surface to raise it a bit. That gives me the size trim that I want. I hope some of this makes sense.:embarasse

Please feel free to PM me with any more questions you may have!

Full water for me is 28.7% lye solution.

I've googled in vain for The Soap Doctor trimmer. I went back and found a hand written receipt from 2005 for payment for this trimmer, but there was no company info on it. Here's a picture of the device:

I found a reference, but no info was there. But, on www.archive.org you can use the "way back" machine to look at archived versions of old web sites.

Does this ring a bell? Unfortunately, no pics.
