Brand new to candle making

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone!

I need help getting started with the basics of candle making. I would love to know the best way to make jar candles, best wax to use & where to get it at a good price. What supplies should I start with? I am also interested in decorating my jars, does anyone have good ideas for that or can anyone suggest a website? Thanks in advance for any help. I look forward to getting to know you all.:yay:

There are lots of great suppliers across the US. If you give us an idea of where you live, we can recommend ones near you to save on shipping costs.

The best way to start out is with a candlemaking kit. It's a good way to get your feet wet.

Hi GMP,

I live in North Texas. I tried to make candles one time & bought my wax, wick & scents from Michael's craft store. I want to start out small & slowly. :)

After I put up my 1st post I continued looking around the website & found some of the information I was asking about. But if you can direct me I would appreciate it!

I would direct you to www.bittercreek.com (click on south). I believe they have some kits which will help you get started. I started with paraffin wax but swiftly switched over to soy so you may want to try several waxes to see what you like to work with best.

Can't really help with decorating the jars though, I've been having some trouble with that myself! I'll probably just stick with a nice label on the outside.

Good luck and welcome to the boards!

Howdy and welcome to the board :grin2:

I agree. Starting with a kit is the best idea, IMO. To be more specific, a quality kit. Most suppliers you'll see recommended here are quality. You'll find using supplies from a hobby store (especially fragrances and wicks, etc) with leave you with a disappointing candle.

Good luck!
