Candle Makin Momma
For figuring out how much FO to add?I normally do 1 oz pp but if I only have 10 oz of wax, how much oil do I add?Help the math challenged please
Kelly
Well, if you want to add 6% FO to 10oz wax wouldn't it just be:10x.06=0.6 FO ?I better let someone else answer because I myself am not only math challenged, brain dead from working all day. Candle Makin Momma
at the risk of being laughed at is 1 oz per pound 6%?I am really not as stupid as I sound. LMAO
jldorrington
ok best i can help you with is if its 8ounces of wax you would need 1/2 oz fo... so i would gues just a smidge over 1/2 oz lol .. i suck at math it took me 20 mins to figure out how much to use in order to make my strawberry and strawberries and cream when i only had 1 oz of strawberry lol
Candle Makin Momma
Yeah that is my formula right now. " So I have 10 oz, well 8 oz is 1/2 oz FO, so I'll just add a little more! LOL"I was just hoping for something more consistent. LOL
jldorrington
its crazy isn't it when i got into this i didn't realize my lack of math skills was gonna screw me up so bad. i add by smidges, dabs, etc... i just got a scale before i was 'weighing' my wax by going "hmm when i poured a 1lbs bag into this it came up to somewhere around here.. that looks right"
Kelly
Well I think (watch out), that each wax holds a different FO load up to 10%, so if you wanted to add 6% you would use the formula above, if you wanted to add 9% you'd use .09x10oz.I'm not sure if 1oz FO to a pound of wax is a 6% load though. Sounds right but I wouldn't say for sure. Where are all the folks who are good at math? 1ozFO to a pound of wax sounds like 10% FO to me, but seriously math was not my best subject, it fact it wasn't even close. I'd have to go so far as to say it was my worst.
SSR Candles
The instructions I received when I started did state that 6% FO is APPROXIMATELY 1 oz per pound. Different waxes do definitely hold more or less FO, so it's different for each one. The methods y'all are using for calculating are correct... Kelly
Ah good to know my formula is right. Really glad to hear it because that's what I've been doing!Kelly
tamsoycandles
Would anyone find an online calculator useful for this type of thing? Plug in variables (oz wax, target %) to get the proper fragrance. I've considered doing this for myself.Tony
creeksidecandles
Take whatever amount of wax you need....eg. 16 oz...multiply that by your FO load, and that will give you your total needed.16oz 16 x 6% =.9610oz 10 x 6% = .6 8oz 8 x 6% = .4816oz 16 x 9% =1.4410oz 10 x 9% =.9 8oz 8 x 9% =.72okee dokee? topofmurrayhill
The answer is 10 / 16 = .625 oz.A few more examples:12 oz wax is 12 / 16 = .75 oz FO20 oz wax is 20 / 16 = 1.25 oz FOThat's a nice simple formula. Plus if you'd like to approximate percentages it happens to be more accurate. 1 oz FO per pound of wax is closer to 6% than 16 x .06. 1.5 oz FO per pound is closer to 9% than 16 x .09.
