Sharon in KY
and made a candle. I want to see how it burns with FO and color. I know people have added it to their candles in a small amount but I think I would like to see a gooey soft candle like that confort blend. Might just try it if I have some extra to mess with. I don't buy it like I use to, now its just the sticks.

Kaybee23
LOL! That was one of the most famous tests on the old board. Alan was making candles out of a stick of butter, crisco and other stuff. If you do a hunt on the old board, you may find it. He put a wick in it and set it on fire. Don't remember what ended up happening to it though. country creek
Kaybee.......LOVE DR. DREAMY!!!! Glad you brought him back.Sharon......I have only used crisco as an additive to bring some life to a very bad batch of wax. I honestly cannot imagine how that would work all by itself but I would love to know what happens. Be careful though!
Carol M
Don't think it could compare to CB, even though it would be soft. CB has micro wax in it which gives it a very elastic texture; the shortening would just be greasy and probably smoke like there's no tomorrow. creativegems
Ok someone be brave and try it. Whip up some shortening with fo in it and stick a wick in it. I remember Alan tried the butter and I don't think anything interesting happened.Janet

Sharon in KY
Me too.. I have read over it many times. Forgot that Crisco was in it. Wish Alan would tell me how the Crisco ended up. And was it a smoker? Just made one, 2.5 oz Crisco, 2.5 oz GF 435, 1 drop Magenta and .5 oz Rasp. Zinger. Using the square mason with a cd 14 wick. Already had them wicked so we'll see. I'll try it tomorrow, good night...
stacien
I used Crisco often and it smokes excessively when you blow it out. I had to actually cover it for a while to get it to stop smoking it was that much smoke! My husband could smell the smoke from upstairs. I tried different variables too, so I gave up that route. I would rather attempt USA than deal with a smoking candle. To be truly honest with you. It didn't make the throw any stronger and it didn't make the tops any better. I would think the more vaseline like quality you give it, it would burn a lot faster considering Crisco raises the temp. I have bought Votivo's and Slatskins that have the same consistency and they burn pretty fast. Plus they lose their cold throw faster. I would think you couldn't ship those kind of candles so easily to the southern states because the melting points are a lot lower. That is my experiences. Other people have different experiences. But yes, Sharon I am curious to see how you did keep us posted.
Sharon in KY
Well, here goes... Poured hot cause if I was going to add more expense to my candles then I want a wax that pours hot. Set up beautiful and I poked air hole just in case, repored and had to heat gun a few times cause of bubbles. Sticking to the sides like glue, no wet spots no pulling away. Think I see a spot or two of frost around bottom. Burned great no soot, put out and didn't notice the smoke thing. Well today it has frost all over the bottom, the top has a few flakes like my soy does sometimes. Still no wet spots, cold throw is good, I had too many scents going to test hot. My verdict, think I'll test the hot throw somewhere else and the burn rate. This may be a cure when my wax starts drying out. We'll see if it gets any more frost. geekrunner
It is one of my all time favs too. That and the one with the dipped bears will go down in Candletech history.I tried Crisco in soy, 1 oz per lb and it dropped the MP so far one of my candles barely hardened! It oozed stuff and was unusable. Maybe I used too much geek
