ashncandles
If I'm only testing to see if I have the right wick, I usually do my first test burn after 24-48 hrs. But if I want to test the FO as well, I wait at least a week.HTH
Scented
I wait at least 24-48 hours to test. I hate doing that, but I do.
escentiallysoy
How do you go about testing different wicks without making a new container candle for each wick? TIA!
wickedwoman
Within 24 hours for wick testing. I give it 2 weeks for PQ before I test for scent through. It just gets stronger after that
ah-soy
How do you go about testing different wicks without making a new container candle for each wick? TIA!To make a test candle just pour the candle without the wick. Once it's set use a bamboo skewer or ice pick to create a tunnel. Then cut the tab off the wick and slide the wick down into the candle and test away. If you determine it's the wrong wick you can just remove it and replace it with another. mosaicchic
Thank you for that tip re testing the wicks. Since I am newbie, I think you just saved me a lot of work, a lot of candles and a lot of wicks. LOL
candlesbylaura
Some candlemakers will buy a disposalbe aluminum baking pan, fill it with wax and insert several different size wicks at one time. Light them all and compare your melt pool and flame height results.
Candybee
The wick switching is a good way to test several different wicks without making a candle for each. Once you have selected the wick you think is best for your candle you still need to test burn the entire candle. A container candle does not burn the same at the top as it does in the bottom. Just keep in mind that your final wick choice should be based on the entire burn.
